Number 7 on the freak fighter top 40

Glad he had a long life and obviously very grateful for what he contributed world culture

To this day there’s a constant flow of great new music that never would have existed if he hadn’t paved the way

The free jazz collective blog is definitely the place I would want to read the first of many eulogies I’m sure to read about it

Thanks Frown

Not that I expected any different but no mention on the TV nightly news that the greatest remaining jazz man passed away. It’s odd that a country so obsessed with patriotism shows such little regard for its own culture.

I know it got press coverage and whatever and maybe it was on the PBS News Hour. I don’t know why these things disappoint me still.

I was expecting a marathon on my local jazz station (they did one for Ornette), but they've only played two Cecil tracks since he's passed. Pretty disgraceful honestly.

You need to call them.

Definitely. My buddy had a stand-up routine based on him some years back. We still quote him once in a while when it's not appropriate.
