Richard Alderson was the engineer, and he got on the intercom and said "Giuseppi, the tape ran out." Without a pause, Giuseppi said "take it back to before where it stopped and we'll take it from there." So he did, he wound it back and played some bars of it and took down the record button, and they resumed exactly what they were doing—there was no way of telling where one or the other ended. It was unreal."

Yep, that’s a fact. My wife was pretty upset when she found out about Grimes this morning.

It got me thinking of Roscoe Mitchell (who thankfully afaik is not infected or sick or anything bad)

But I thought about how I thought of The Art Ensemble of Chicago and how I discovered them back when I was in college and how I thought they were old then. Then, as I’ve expressed before I adore Bells for the South Side which I interpret as an expression of the pain that even after they’ve given so much for so long Chicago remains so deeply stuck in the pattern of urban black on black violence.

I get Mitchell has lived as a working a musician. Which in a way is a dream life but still how it must feel to have lived so long and never see Chicago be what it should be. Maybe I’m just in the mood to be sad but goddamn. How much are people supposed to endure?
