Murdering civilians is a lot less peaceful than being a bit of a dick imo

Look, I'm not glossing over the fact that he carried the water for Herr Bush during his first term (and I'm sure a lot of his anti-Trump rhetoric was out of loyalty to the same crowd). He did look like a fool when he announced the weapons of mass destruction line at the UN. Still, compared to the neo-cons like Rumsfeld and Cheney (or Kissinger for that matter), he really doesn't look all that bad.

Anyway, when you wish bad things for people you disagree with, well, it doesn't make for a peaceful world when the other side does the same thing to you.

I will, however, make an exception if something not so nice happens to Trump. ;)

That's why you drag them out of their homes and cut their heads off before they can do it to you.

So, yes, Trollheart, people do care. Despite his foibles, Powell cared about the US above anything else; a knee jerk Republican he wasn't.

Yes, I haven't followed his career in detail, but I think he deserves at least some credit for actively encouraging people to turn away from the modern GOP. As for being taken in by mis-information about weapons of mass destruction - many people on both sides of the Atlantic were deceived by that lie, and I think he expressed regret about it.
He did well to be the first black guy to rise to such a high office, but of course not so good that he chose killing people as his profession. So I'd opt for a more balanced response: not pedestalizing, but not dancing on the grave either. Perhaps closest is what I take to be TH's reaction: not caring.

I'm happy to agree with this and leave it there.

Thanks TH! Unfortunately the word copyright department is still working their way through a backlog of invented words from the 50s onwards: all those back-up singer "shawally-wally doobi-dahs" that we looked at here:-

Trump definitely killed a ****load of civilans when he turned Mosul and Raqqa into powder while "bombing the ****" out of ISIS. He's no Bush but he's still a war criminal.

Frownland 10-19-2021 09:56 AM

I was referring to relishing in someone's death as the dickish thing.

The Batlord 10-19-2021 10:04 AM

I'm more of a bore criminal I suppose.

The Batlord 10-19-2021 11:08 AM

Oh and Powell, a major at the time, played a part in the attempt to cover up the My Lai Massacre, so **** him.

You didn't realize he was hated? Do you remember the Iraq war my friend?

He got brownie points from some liberals afterwards when he endorsed Obama but endorsing Obama as a black man is way less of a stand out moment then the whole WMD thing...

Nobody quite knows how to passive aggressively dance on a grave like Trump does.
