RIP Tobe Hooper. Without the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (and a few other legendary horror films) I would probably be sane. So thanks for that good sir.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Eaten Alive, The Funhouse, Poltergeist, Body Bags, The Mangler (so bad its good, come on)... he did so many fun films.

TCM is one of my all tims favourite horror films and I really think that there arent any films except for maybe Straw Dogs that caught the bizarre vibe of TCM.

The blunt way that they present it is a huge part of it as well. Like the part where the hitchhiker cuts into his hand--the characters reacted negatively to it, but there's no doubt in my mind that it's a strange but very real present part of the reality that they've just stepped into. That's what makes it such a crazy and scary film for me: even though it reaches absurd and surreal points, it has this grippingly gritty self-acceptance that just makes it feel like I'm watching live footage. It might just be the nostalgia that I have with the film, but it's kind of hard to put to words what exactly I love about the movie and why.

TCM is one of the classics, I like the gritty way it was filmed, where it felt like you were watching a tape of it unfolding, this almost home movie, filmed as it happened type dread to it.

The sequel was also legendary.

Yeah it's about as much an art film as it is probably the most visceral film of all time.

I'm not a fan of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but watching Poltergeist on mushrooms was one of my more memorable life experiences. I'll always love Tobe Hooper for that.
