I used to be REALLY into The Mars Volta. I hate the direction they went in Deloused in the Comatorium is still my favorite album of all time. There is a song on the album called "Roulette Dares". Exoskeletal is from a lyric...

"Exoskeletal, junction at the railroad tonight..."

That and I like words with both an 'x' and a 'k' in it.

GuitarBizarre 10-05-2012 12:39 PM

I picked this name way back in 2005 when I had been playing guitar for a couple years and it was really becoming my "thing", that I did and identified with.

Bizarre was because like most teens I had a real appreciation at the time for "random" humour and so on. Also it rhymed and made the name unique enough that it was never taken on websites.

Neapolitan 10-06-2012 01:43 PM

I wanted a user name that had something to do with music. Besides liking Rock I have a some interest in Folk music from around the world. So I picked a name of a music scale that is often used in Italian madolin music: Neapolitan scale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have to admit that I also read it as "mojopunk" and I done so for like first two years on MB, it was only recently that I noticed it as "Mojo Pin UK." People mess up my user-name all the time too (e.g. Neopolitan or Napoleon) I gave up correcting them. People tend to shorten names and give nick-names, there are one or two I don't care for but I don't mind "Neo" - a Matrix reference.

I think everybody got that joke 3 posts ago.

For me, I simply chose from a short list of single-word nouns that I like. I wanted a palindrome but.. close enough.

I was listening to this song when I signed up.

Burning Down 10-09-2012 12:43 PM

Like Ribbons, I was listening to a song when I signed up. Burning Down by REM, and it happened to be my favourite song of theirs at the time.

All this time I thought you got your name from the Talking Heads song, Burning Down The House, but shorten it. I think of that song every time I see your username... now that I know it's a REM song I have go and to update my earworm.

My last name. I figured I'd take my legacy of functional alcoholism and general dumbassery to the internet.
Plus it's a really funny word.

Now just post your social security number so that we can really get to know you.

gunnels 10-15-2012 03:34 PM

lol, to be honest I googled my last and first name just to be sure my identity couldn't be found. There's been tons of people with my last name. Celtic unoriginality ftw.

Alfred 10-15-2012 07:13 PM

I used to go on this chat room when I was like 12 and there was this chick named Ali. We were making up guy's names for her one day and Alfred was one of those. I liked the name so much that I started using it as my own nickname on every forum after that.

Yeah a few people have thought that. It's cool, I like that song too :)

TBH I thought your name was another one taken from comic books... Batman's butler: Alfred Thaddeus Crane Pennyworth - drats fooled once again. :shycouch:

Blarobbarg 10-16-2012 08:53 AM

When I was a little kid I was playing with toys with two of my other friends. We just had all the action figures out and were making them have a big war. One of my friends had a little alien guy whose catch phrase was "Blarg!" I thought this was absolutely hilarious, and made it my personal catch phrase. I guess it stayed with me, because as soon as I started using the internet (around 12 or so) I made that my username on everything. I eventually came up with a character to go with the name (who was an immortal alien clown of inconceivable powers, like some sort of Lovecraftian being).

I used to play the MMO City Of Heroes (soon to be taken offline :( ), and wanted to make Blarg. The name was taken, so I tried several variations. Everything taken. Out of frustration, I typed in "Blargenwargen." It worked, so I was stuck with that. I started using that instead of Blarg, it was longer and funnier and more memorable.

Then I come here. When I made my user name I was tired of Blargenwargen, but wanted to keep the "Blarg" theme. I thought about it, and decided to insert the first syllable of my last name (Rob) into my user name in some way. Thus, Blarobbarg was born. Er, typed.

If they turn out to be immortal alien clowns of inconceivable powers who end up eating the universe or something, I will be very, very unhappy. I would expect extradimensional beings to be better rappers.

Trollheart 10-16-2012 12:40 PM

How about the Dark Clowns, from "Tripping the rift"? Whaddaya mean, you've never seen it???

Oh and Blaro, thanks for that: your username had been bugging me for months! Wondered where it had come from! :thumb:

Big Ears 10-16-2012 02:12 PM

Mine was a nickname from school, which I hated, so I thought there was a certain irony in using it on the forums. It has backfired because I do not like being called Big Ears on the forums either, but it is how I am known now.

Trollheart, in the OP, when you say 'my unfinished fantasy novel' did you mean you were reading or writing one?

Trollheart 10-16-2012 03:14 PM

I meant writing one. For about 20-odd years now. Someday I'll get the time/incentive to sit down and finish it, then I'll be rich and famous and you'll all be sorry BWA HA HA HAAAAA!

Just hope it doesn't take another 20 odd years to write a sequel. Your fans would move on way before then. :P

But I can see you making a great book.
You seem like a very good writer.

Trollheart 10-16-2012 06:02 PM

Ah, thanks. Appreciate it. I'll see if I can unearth some of it --- crap, think it was all on floppy discs (ask yer dad, kids!) and my new PC hasn't got a floppy drive! Oh, technology! How you mock me!

Leave it with me... (if you're interested, that is..)

I think that you should just write a novel from Mr. Burns' perspective where he's frustratingly attempting to write a sci-fi novel, and you can just integrate your (un)finished novel into it as his work. You're very good at emulating the Burns.

Trollheart 10-17-2012 05:43 PM

That's a great idea! He could write about all these "futuristic" things he expects to see, like "telly-phones", "moh-tor cars" and perhaps even "the inter-net". Yeah, but who'd believe him? Plus, I couldn't afford the copyright fees....

But a blog of some kind, you say? Hmmm. I like the way snruB thinks! :)

I kinda know how you feel. For me it was my lips, they said I had lips like Mick Jagger or I looked like Brian Jones and then they always asked if I was English. No one ever commented about my ears.

I chose mine wrong. Lasers own but its all i could think of when i joined and i thought up a better username but i already have this one.

Nowadays, people pay a lot of money to have collogen injected into their lips. I am not aware of any celebrities having their ears enhanced though. Even Michael Jackson stopped at his ears.
