I dont know him lol, I just know that he is from somewhere that I have a personal interest in and love to try and learn about. As it is, he is of no use to me anyway!! :p

@S_K: from what I've been told, and from what research I've done my family would have come from the Drenthe/Gronigen region, because if I trace back further I have German and possibly Danish roots as well

Well if there's anything you'd like to know about the netherlands, feel free to ask. I travel the whole country quite often except for the Waddeneilanden so I suppose I know quite something

There are. I myself are originally from North Holland, not from the South where I live now.
It's safe to say that people from the south are more sociable but they tend to talk behind eachothers back. The people on the left of the country, so mainly north/south holland and Utrecht are very direct. May seem not as friendly but at least you know what you're up to and once you get to know them, they are very much allright. The people from friesland and groningen are usually very friendly, but not very talkative. They are usually a bit more lonerish than the other people from the netherlands.
Then there's drenthe, overijssel and Gelderland. I don't like gelderland and overijssel. The people there are unfriendly to people who are not from Gelderland and even when they seem friendly, it's a common known fact that you'll never really get in and they'll drop you once they don't need you anymore. Overijssel is a bit better than Gelderland but overijssel has a lot of strongly religious people. I usually don't really get along with those. People from Drenthe are more like people from groningen, but not as open and honest.
Leaves us with Zeeland, Brabant and Flevoland.
Flevoland is a pretty dull place to be. It only exists since a couple of decades ago, it was literally raised from the sea. I've only been to almere and lelystad and I can't say I like it there. The people are usually pretty ****ed up and asocial. The level of education seems rather low there. I have also been to the Lowlands festival in Biddinghuizen. The road to that is full of water. Not much people or villages there, so I can't say much .
Brabant... Brabanders (people from brabant) are usually into partying and they tend to tell a lot of bull****. They're not particularly unfriendly, but whenever I talk to them they talk like the know everything about anything but they just talk crap. Especially on the right side, around Eindhoven, it's bad. On the middle and left side it's better. Lot of influences from zuid holland there. I love Den Bosch, which is a city in Brabant. You should go there, it's underrated .
And Zeeland... Well, the "Zeeuwen" (people from zeeland) don't seem to want to interact with the people from outside zeeland. They are behind compared to the rest of the country. They have no highways, loads of religious people (may sound strange to some US citizens, but being religious is considered old fashioned by most people here), they are very closed, very unfriendly, don't greet... It's a strange thing.
I don't know anyone from Zeeland. They just won't come into your life. They seem virtually invisible on the Internet.

My favourite provinces when it comes to people are Zuid Holland and Utrecht.
I don't want to live there as it's a lot of big cities and busy roads. I like the countryside. I don't mind living here, even though I have a lot of friends who live way up north.

The things I told you are a mix of what you hear and of what I've experienced.
Of course I know good and bad people of every province .
