Pshhh... 6 years hard time, sitting behind a computer in a variety of climates. Go army.

Pell is a federal grant that's given to students who don't have a lot of income. Not too shabby of an amount either... 2500 dollars a semester. It's not really a lot of money, but when it's free, it's a lot of money, if you know what I mean. I live bountifully without it, so it's the kind of money you get and end up buying really dumb shit with, just because you know you won't feel bad about it.

But I do sorta feel bad about it. Because my fellow americans have to woLOLOLOLOL. No.

Are there any requirments for it? I tried getting food stamps but since I already have health insurance they told me no. Iv been looking for something in the way of government help. God knows I have paid enough in taxes from every paycheck.

You just have to make under a certain amount (I don't know what, because I earn 0 taxable dollars, so I don't concern myself), and sign up for full-time in college. Basically you just go to the FASFA.gov website and put in your school code and all, provide the necessary info, plus latest tax form for the previous year, and if you qualify, they'll send you an award letter stating how much you qualify for. After you get the money, you actually have to complete the whole semester though... if you drop or what have you, you have to pay it back.

hm thanks I am going to try that. I am full time at school and working part time, but if I could get that times would be good.

You also have to be a certain age.. I think it's 23 or 24, otherwise, you have to use your parent's income. If their income is above a certain level, then you won't get approved.

$2500 is not bad man, is it lump sum? I get about the same for jobseekers but it's $100 a week.

So basically you're making it in college with nothing but the G.I. bill and scholarships? One of my friends is applying for schools but doesn't want to try for biochem because he's worried he won't have much left over time to work and won't have enough money to live.

Yep. Lump sum each semester, for 3 semesters. After which, you have to re-apply, which is basically just providing your next tax info (or lack thereof).

Yea, I have the post 9-11 GI bill, which pays almost 2 grand a month (where I live) for housing, so that goes directly to me, then they pay the full tuition, plus a books & supplies stipend of 1,000 bones (proportioned between the three main semesters of a school year, that you attend). My bills top out at like 800 a month, then personal expenses, plus I have a pretty hefty nest egg left over from deployments and all that, so it's pretty easy going. With the extra free money from Pell, I can't really go wrong. I won't be riding to the liquor store in a limo or anything, but I'm comfortable throughout the entire time it takes for me to get a degree, which is kind of a huge help.

Haha yeah that's got to be great I'm looking forward to that. I know you can make quite a lot of that housing allowance if you're willing to live with a roommate, but for whatever reason he seems to think it won't be enough. I'll tell him about the Pell thing though, thanks. The problem right now must be that he's not eligible yet since he's still active duty and has that paycheck.
