I really don't think anything is retrievable. it's so damaged. everything is fried from the heat and it's taken repeated beatings. My stepfather has the tolls to retrieve data like pros, but I guess it was just too damaged.

If your computer croaked from overheating, your hard drive is probably still perfectly fine. All you have to do is remove the hard drive, buy a 2.5 inch enclosure for it (noting whether it's a sata or IDE drive), and plug it in to your new computer via a USB cable and bam, you have an external hard drive with all your original data still on it.

Edit: You said you tried looking through the hard drive... how did you go about doing that?

Unless you threw the laptop against a wall while it was running and reading/writing files, then I don't think the hard drive is "dead". You can even get viruses that completely destroy the MBR and wreak havoc on the file system, and retrieve every file on it that has not been overwritten. For free. Easily.

my day actually was okay for a bit.
went to family friends house for some food and some beer.
turned a bit weird when some of the people busted out some pot brownies sprinkled with coke on top.
went to go hang out with my girlfriend, but she was out doing **** and her phone died.
went home passed out on the coach woke up to several missed calls and several text messages.
Now I'm wide awake at 530 am.

Pot brownies taste great! It's just coke that has the nasty taste. I can't imagine why anyone would choose to eat it. Not to mention that I'm pretty sure it has less of an effect that way.

I woke up, ate food, went for a jog and saw a dog get hit by a bike - luckily it was okay. Then i went home, ate some more, went to work, came home, ate some more... about to go to sleep now
