Why the **** would anyone do that to themselves? Those cuts look really fresh as well. ****...

Excellent question. I definitely wasn't expecting it. I know with normal black metal, a lot of it is just corpse paint and satanic imagery. I figured with DSBM it would only extend to dramatic cover art with nooses and razor blades and so on. To think they commit such a level of self harm is pretty shocking.

I think it's more about the presentation that mirrors their performance and image of their music, rather than just doing it to themselves. I'm guessing they want to put a little bit of "dare" in it as well.

It releases endorphins. It feels good when your emotional/mental pain is so strong and overpowering your ability to think and function and you have no idea how to let it out.

Yea I heard about that. Wasn't sure if it's true since it can bite you in the ass afterwards.

Otherwise I can see how it relieves tension and stress in the moment by shifting mental pain to physical.

My arms would testify to the fact it is true

Lol, sorry I didn't mean to make it awk, just I don't get it when people are like BUT WHY DO PPL CUT THEMSELVES???

because it's basically the same thing as getting really drunk/stoned when you feel awful.

PoorOldPo 12-02-2012 01:42 AM

I am a little squeemish so I dunno if I would ever be able to do that to myself.

Today was was one of the most interesting days of my life. Here's why:

I woke up early to go to a meeting with a group of people that I am doing a school project with. A girl in my group said, "I'm going to ask you a personal question" and I said "okay" so she asked me my age. I told her that I'd tell her but she had to guess first. She refused to guess but another girl in my group piped in with "29!".
So I chuckled and told them all that I turned 38 last week. They were shocked and told me that I have "good genes", etc, meaning that I still look like a child. Whatever. It gets better.

I went to see Joe Rogan perform stand-up comedy tonight. It was a great show. I met up with him afterwards and talked to him a little bit about some of his bits. He was receptive. As I was walking back to a bus home, I ran into Rogan and his small entourage and decided to follow them. They went into a nearby bar with a sign that said "upstairs reserved" so I followed them upstairs and nobody stopped me. I got a free drink or three and Rogan saw me and said, "You snuck in, good work" and gave me a fist bump. After he got rid of photo takers and dick riders, I went up to him and had a short conversation about how to make a chaotic life more orderly. I continued to get drunk, met Brian, the guy who produces his podcast, and met some of the people who run Alex Jones' website.

Somebody lured me outside to smoke things and, after that, I proceeded to walk the 2-3 miles home from downtown (the busses had stopped). I was pretty wasted but managed to stay on the sidewalk. I have done this same fucked up walk before but usually fell down a lot. I was doing pretty well but somebody in a car passed me and yelled "You Walk Like My Grandma!" which made me laugh heartily. But I still didn't fall and made it back home and posted this.

The end.
