Because when I got out of my car ready to beat the **** out if him he was frantically apologising in a Polish accent. Urr, how else would I know? He wasn't driving an artic for 18hours solid or anything so his accent was my first guess.

Saw an elderly lady slip as she was coming outside of a balti house earlier

She let out a shriek and didn't move. I just ran over and then stood there for 10 seconds or so as her husband tried to get her up. I offered my help but not really sure what I could have done but I felt really bad, she seemed OK as she got to her feet. Poor woman

This type of weather at the moment is lethal for the elderly and for that reason most don't venture out unless they have to.

Yes; the roads and pavements are treacherous at the moment. It was literally on the doorstep of the balti house, fortunately she didn't hit her head off the building.

It really is awful for the elderly when it's icy out. My grandmother has minor fractures to her spine (osteoporosis) but still works two ten hour shifts a week. She gets up early in the morning, when it's the absolute iciest out, and her steps are a hazard. I've fallen down them more times than I care to admit when it's slick out.

I've been going out of my way to salt the **** out of her steps and porch so that she doesn't fall when she's leaving for work. It's something that really freaks me out, because if she slipped, that would be absolutely horrendous; minor spinal fractures due to osteoporosis coupled with a fall could mean paralysis or worse.

Yeah, three years ago my grandma was getting out of a car and slipped on a patch of ice and broke her hip. She was 81 and had already been sick for quite a long time before that, so it all went downhill from there. She passed away 3 weeks later.
