Friday I went to help celebrate a drummer friends birthday as his band rocked the house down at a local bar. I haven't seen that many booties on a dance floor in a long time. His band and his playing were flawless. They did top 40 dance tunes, but dam they sounded tight. Kept the crowd happy too. All this after getting a call from my daughter saying that part of our condo is 2-3 inches under water. Apparently the toilet in her room needs a new assembly, AND it clogged at the same time, so it was running over for a good hour before she noticed. I cleaned that up with some towels and a shop-vac and fixed the clog, set up a few fans, then went out for the night.

Saturday I went to our team party for a 5K benefit which followed the next morning. Drinking until midnight, then having to get up early to run a 5K is not recommended. I brought my Uke and we made up a team song though. It was actually a lot of fun.

Sunday I did the 5K in the morning, then I got invited to go out on my GF's brothers boat along with his daughters BF's boat. We tore up and down the Illinois river then stopped at a sand bar for some festivities. I'm pretty burnt. I need to wear sunscreen when I'm out on the water. I forgot about that. Ouch.

Today, I get to go to the Sox/Cubs crosstown classic with my daughter, which was a Fathers Day gift. We'll be *ouch taking the train in to the Cell, and back.

I'm hosting another Open Mic next Saturday, then *ouch a couple weeks after that I'll be playing a large concert in Michigan.

I don't know how long I can keep this pace up, but I think I'm *ouch winning at life at this point.

*sunburn hurts

Damn. Everything I've heard about Chicago so far is awesome. Much envy.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

As long as you stay off the expressway at night it is, since the gang/drug wars sometimes spill out onto I57/I94. I've been thinking that a lot of those are from the hype-ass mother fuckers trying to rob the dealers in those areas. They've been huge heroine/crack/meth/stick spots for decades.

But yeah, Chicago's awesome. There's something to do pretty much 24/7/365.

I live in the Yankee-transplant part of NC and there is absolutely nothing to do ever. Starting and keeping a band has always proved hard here (hard enough to find anyone who plays) but I'm sure I'll find something that works eventually. Anytime I want to go do something I have to drive about 30 minutes out to get into Raleigh. At least parts of it are pretty and I'm not a real social kind of guy anyways but I just wished it was easier to find things to do ya know?

Just watched Anthony Bourdain's "The Layover - Chicago" yesterday.

I'll bet there's some killer disc golf courses though. You should go disc golfing all the time. I would.

I had three houseguests in from NYC for the weekend but was devastated to discover that my entire city shuts down at 10pm.

Unless you're a brainless knob partying it up at a local club or dive bar, there is nothing of cultural significance to do after dark.

A fellow resident had to spell it out for me, saying,

Quote:
"Buffalo never made it to the 90s. Everyone here gets plastered on the weekend to forget how miserably poor they are. All the jobs are blue collar and the intelligentsia left twenty years ago seeking better opportunity. The city is only now experiencing the second wave of coffee culture with an explosion of Starbucks shops - it'll be another decade before they discover artisanal coffee (third wave) or the present fourth wave (indifference). As a result, nighthawks at the diner simply don't exist in this city, and vanishing with them are the gathering places for inspiring discussions of cultural criticism, the arts, and literature."
It was really a sobering realization.

^That's really unfortunate. I've never had those kinds of struggles.

I remember we used to drive into the city at night with our bikes strapped to the trunk and park along LSD (Lake Shore Drive), then bike to multiple bars/coffee shops until the sun came up. Rush street and the surrounding area was always the go-to party district back in the early 90's. Then, after every one is good and plastered someone would always shout "Let's go to Starved Rock!". Always a bad idea. Everyone would be sleeping by the time we got there. I just can't do shit like that anymore, but dam it was a lot of fun.

Today updated, since I need money for stuff like living and I'm at work, I get to watch reps from Kentucky State burn one my units I designed. Then it's off to watch some baseball.

Hey now, dives can be a blast (especially when it's an older establishment), they're not all bad.
