But yeah. Ironic. I take a lot of inspiration for how to live my life from a guy who hung himself. |

Maybe that says something about how your brain is not your playground but that you are your playground for your brain.

I was referring to your comment, then using a catch-all "you" to ... yeah, okay. It could have been misinterpreted, as it was with you. But I explained what I mean so now you know, yes?

Nah. You are a high level process within your brain, but your brain is still doing all kinds of things otherwise. I would never assume that my consciousness was the entirety of my brain's processes.

Even IF it’s a bit of an oversimplification I get what he meant and I agree. You get too far away from that and you start getting religious.

So as I was saying, Frown and Hawk made good posts regarding suicide.
Where do our forumistas stand on the issue? It's been long enough since the suicide thread was asked to ask the new regulars. I have always been on the personal choice side of the debate. A person cannot choose to be born, so I don't see why they shouldn't have a choice in their death. If it's your body it's your rules, surely if you have one right it would be the right to end your own life. Now if someone I loved told me they were suicidal, I'm not gonna just go along with it as it's their choice, I would try to be there for them, help them and stop them from doing it. This is because I would miss them and be hurt if they died but also because death is permanent, and shouldn't be rushed. People who have gone through suicidal feelings, often will say there was a time after that when they were glad they didn't do it and that for me is the key, the reason to hold on. By killing yourself you're taking away the opportunity for things to get better and that needs to be seriously thought about. There is no going back. It's selfish to say that it's selfish, that's already been posted and I agree with it. For those guys who think suicide is selfish, would you say a relative who smokes and then dies of lung cancer is selfish? We all know smoking kills you, when they die have they not been selfish by knowingly killing themselves albeit over a longer period of time? If you're going to throw in addiction as a mitigating factor in smoking then accept the mitigating factors involved in suicide, for example mental illness and lack of rational thought. I think that the real tragedy is that people can reach such a low point they actually see suicide as an option. That is heartbreaking to me. I dunno just some thoughts while I'm watching the snooker. Hawkins is winning btw. |
