Hiking clears my mind 100000000000x more than yoga or meditation. Try finding a nice path with some natural scenery and taking it as far as you can (no idea how hard this is where you live). I think you already know this based on what you've said about camping recently.

In my mind hiking is a form of meditation

In my twenties and thirties I was serious about it

When I lived in rural snow country Japan I made notebooks of ways I discovered to get to the tops of nearby mountains. Of course, this wasn’t trailblazing many locals could find their way through the backwoods but I think I was the first to map it out with detailed descriptions in English. I left my handwritten notes at the junior high. It wasn’t just trails but literally through the woods with no path.

In Korea too. Right outside the big cities. That was all trail hiking but I wasn’t using maps or anything. I remember hearning chanting and stumbling on temples.

People always said don’t go alone but that was the only way it was meaningful.

But now I’m too old and tired so I just hit a spot, build a fire, sleep in my tent. Recently in parks. It’s still recharges me. Father Time...

Really enjoy hiking - especially in New Mexico,
but other places as well. It's not a full-blown days long thing -
just a day out enjoying the surroundings.

Well, my wife and I just found out that she's pregnant, so that's my life now.

I'm not unhappy, even a little. But wow am I surprised.

I guess that’s going to put some heat on getting the full time regular teaching job - but I’m sure it pays pretty good up there
