Loved your response. I'm incredibly fortunate to have The Bop Shop in my old home town. No one can top them when it comes to jazz and classical, early music, etc., and they have a gent on staff whose expertise is jaw-droppingly impressive.

The last time I was in I asked him about two specific pressings of both Satie and Debussy's Das Klavierwerk • Œuvres Pour Piano pressed exclusively in Germany and Japan that I'm hunting and their resident classical guru engaged me in a riveting and impassioned discussion of various conductor's interpretations. And when I said I was only familiar with Beethoven's work via the 80LP Bicentennial Edition he leapt to the shelves and sent me home with alternate performances to compare and develop my ear.

The man is a treasure. (As are you - you really know your stuff.)

Relying on Spotify to gain musical knowledge is a bit like relying on a vending machine to learn about sodas.

Yeah. If that vending machine had access to millions of sodas and really clever algorithms to cater to your tastes and weekly updates and was actually a part of another device called a computer that was connected to a World Wide Web of information called the internet - then your mostly accurate analogy would be completely dead on.

Spotify is an application on my phone which is actually some sort of computing device. It’s some kind of new thing where a “program” of computer “code” interacts with the hardware on your computer which is connected to hundreds of millions of other computers.

Do they share data with one another?

No (at least not in a sentient sense, I think).

I feel like a pregnant chick trying to get an abortion but by law the doctor has to show me an ultrasound.
