So even though the shop is closed, we're still buying collections (safely) and on Tuesday I bought records from two people around my age. Girl and Guy. They definitely thought they were worth hundreds. I paid them $80. Today I get a phone call from a woman who claims that her daughter stole her record collection from her house. Daughter is a heroin addict. I told her to come pick them up.
She just left. She looked so tired. We talked a bit and I shared my experience with my brother. She looked so relieved that somebody knew her pain but also just exhausted. She asked if she had to pay us back the money and I told her not to worry about it, that she's got more on her plate, and she said she'd try to get the $80 back from her daughter and come back with it. I said that'd be nice but don't worry about it. It's just money.
I brought the records out to her car and she had her husband with her and in the backseat was a three year old boy. She said "That's her son. Well, he's more like our son now." She kinda gave me a thank you touch on my shoulder and I just wanted to hug her because I know that pain. But, you know...virus stuff.
I just went inside and cried.
