I’m so thrilled with today’s success! For years I’ve had two cheap record shelves which were collapsing, so I’ve been stalking sales listings for quality cube shelves for months. Today my efforts paid off and I scored a matching pair of the most-trusted units on the market - the Ikea Expedit/Kallax shelves locally for a fraction of their normal price.

They’re usually $238.98 for a pair of the shelves with shipping from Canada, but I scored both of these just-like-new for $50 apiece already assembled and just 5 miles from my door! They were an absolute perfect fit to replace the portion of my collection which occupied the former shelves.

Extra special thanks go out to a dear friend in town who offered his truck and his strength to haul them home in the pouring rain. I am SO GRATEFUL for his help! It was far more work than it looks like but at last the project is complete!

Here they are in action in my listening room!

Everything looks beautiful in your listening room, ISB. So glad you were able to get a great bargain with the Expedit/Kallax shelves, and so close to home. Very nice of your friend to help you out. I recently viewed this site featuring Kallax shelf hacks (lots of good ideas there): https://www.digsdigs.com/ikea-kallax-ideas-hacks/
I love your pink velvet chair, the framed posters and photos on your walls, your Beethoven bust headphone stand, Victorian lamps and, last but not least, your Nipper statute quietly taking in the view. :)

Not to be mean but that chair with the modern looking picture frames kinda clashes. I say this cause I'm hoping to send you on an antique picture frame binge while I sit back and smile evily.

The framed art print is the “Electric Love Blueprint - A History of Electronic Music” theremin schematic created by the Dorothy design collective. The infographic “celebrates over 200 inventors, innovators, artists, composers and musicians who have been pivotal to the evolution of electronic music, from the invention of the earliest known sound recording device in 1857 to the present day.”

The 60 x 80 cm art print is printed with metallic silver ink on 120gsm Keaykolour Royal Blue uncoated stock.

As a graphic designer and a lover of experimental music, this is an absolute treasure in my home.

*curses you as I search for an antique frame*

I like how the chair lends a very bright splash of color to the otherwise earth-toned décor. And the chair ties in with the Victorian lamps, imho. Not everything needs to match, y'know, Monsieur Batlord.

You know you want antique picture frames. Hell I want antique picture frames. Modern frames are trash.

I love that you two engage me. Thank you. I do have more ornate vintage frames on other pieces throughout my home. A few quick examples -

Here's a painting framed above my Parisian cafe bistro set in my alcove:

...and a local artist's large rendering of the 1960 George Pal film of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine which hangs above my fireplace -

Perhaps I'll upgrade to one more like these in the future. It's just difficult to track down antique frames at custom European scales.

Just chiming in to declare that your posts are a source of life and wholesomeness

Those are both lovely. I like the second frame especially - has a more delicate look, not quite as gilded, with more of the wood showing through. They're both beautiful, though.
