Like, not having a car in Rhode island was not even that big of a deal, though it was kinda bummy. But i could get around using buses and ****. Not having a car in south Florida or Greensboro nc was a pain, the public transport is crappy but it does exist. Extra bummy not having a car down there though But not having a car here in Statesville? You're ****ed lol. Might as well be a non entity. I do enjoy driving though... That is when I'm not in traffic getting agita from the slow driving locals... |
At this point in my life i feel like I'd want a car regardless of where I'm at but it's life or death around here for sure

Because of the next sentence I guess?

But he's hardly going to search him for drugs without due cause is he? I mean, he's going to see a WHITE guy trying to get his broken-down car off the road. He's not immediately going to think "better see if he has any banned substances on him" is he now? I guess if he were black, maybe that might be the cop's first thought, but for a white man? Doubt it. Unless jwb means he would lose it with the cop (not being known for his patience) and bring the search upon himself? Or is he just being overly paranoid?
|
Yeah, what I'm getting at is "can police search your car/your person at will"?
|
Well I think it's up to their discretion, but what I'm saying is that the mindset would be, I think: Black guy=drugs/weapons search. Black woman=try to cop a feel and look all big and authoritarian, White man=Do what you can to help your white brother and white woman=try to get her number and hit on her but without making it too obvious cause a white woman's complaint against you will be taken seriously by the white police force.

Yeah, that's why I asked jwb and not you: I'm more interested in how these things work in reality than in projection, conjecture and generic internet sanctimony, the entire point of which is establishing yourself as the goody good progressive anti-racist, anti-sexist boy. |

In that regard, the police aren't so different from many of us I suppose. _____________________________ A carless life can be uncomfortable in many places. I live in a city that has plenty of buses (average wait time: 10 mins). Unfortunately, they have radial routes, so people are forever doing two sides of a triangle for what could be a short journey:- https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...aroZQ&usqp=CAU No one has mentioned Uber which has been very successful here. I wonder how widespread that is in the US ? (For years, I chose between bus or bicycle to suit my trip. Now, like jwb, I have a car that occasionally leaves me stranded.) |
