It was, yeah. The problem seems to be that the symptoms of being constipated kind of mirror those leading up to a UTI (headache/sweating/hot-and-cold/off food/pain in side/sick feeling) so I never really know which is which. Enemas I can deal with at home (if I bring her in with constipation they only end up doing that anyway, so why go through all that?) but I can't ever be totally sure that that's what it is. Which is why this week was such a curveball to me. I gave her the enema, everything seemed fine and I was pleased with myself (after I'd learned how to breathe and smell again!) that we'd avoided the hospital. I knew more than the doctors. Yay me. Then it turned out to be a UTI after all. She hasn't had one in about a year, so I was kind of surprised that was what it turned out to be, plus her temperature was fine - 36.1 - and the doctors had made it clear to me multiple times that there has to be a fever/high temperature before there's an infection.

Glad she's better now TH.
I guess they're the same all over. Damn places. If Hell exists I bet it's an emergency room/A&E.

Things move mega slow. Like it's about three or four hours after you arrive before they even take a blood test. Then it takes several hours to get that through the lab. So you're likely six or seven hours lying on a trolley (a hard metal one with no real mattress) before they even know what the next step is. It is, literally, the waiting that is the worst part. Other than the pain of course. And the sick feeling. But yeah, waiting just kills you. Not knowing. Is it like that in Denmark? I mean, people have been left on trolleys for up to 48 hours before getting a bed, and people in the waiting room outside A&E have often been sent home because it's too busy. Come back tomorrow. In agony? Sorry. Can't help you today.

Yes they are now. Thanks for your concern. The hospital told me it would take 48/72 hours for the antibiotics to begin to work, and they were right. It's just hard to see someone you love in immense pain during that time and not being able to do anything to help them. I couldn't even leave her to go look out the window to see if the ambulance had arrived, as she was holding my hand and wouldn't let go. I had to ask a neighbour to keep a lookout. Christ. One of the worst feelings I've ever had.

Danish hospitals have been under budget pressure the last few years with somewhat overworked staff. But the standard is still pretty high compared to many countries as far as I know. I'd imagine you'd at least get a temporary bed or something soon enough if you're actually sick.

But I don't actually know how your scenario would have played out if you had lived where I do.

Nah I'm no hero. I just love my sister and don't want to see her in pain. I could certainly do without twelve-hour-plus stays in the A&E though. Oh yeah, no food either. Should have packed something I guess, but I was trying to make sure I brought all the important stuff, like her medication, ointments, lip balm (women, eh? ) and of course her electric fan, because it gets HOT in that place and there are NO fans there!

Irish hospitals are a joke, unless you're paying for private care. You literally have to be so sick that you can't avoid going to hospital, people hate it so much. A standard wait is about 12 - 20 hours.

I forgot that the last time I nannied long term I swore I'd never do it again because it's too hard to leave the family, even when better opportunities are offered. I'm really happy with the job I have now, and if I leave it for one of these new positions that have opened up to me it would be a purely financial move and that feels ****ty. I hate making life decisions based on a couple more dollars an hour.

Not having to deal with children seems like a reward in itself.

**** capitalism. Go with your heart. You're married to Chad Kroeger, he'll support you financially.

just got back from a 7 hour wait and the hospital to see a doctor. after battling with stomach issues since last august i finally found a doctor that suggested taking a look at what’s causing it.

so now i gotta have a scoped shoved up my pooper. pray for me.
