I get my serial killer info through Last Podcast on the Left. I'm not way into true crime, but they pepper it with appropriate and inappropriate jokes throughout, so then I'm game

Mass Murder and Torture of French Protestants called Huguenots.
Started in the 1700's and Louis XIV was the worst one overall. Those that could or would fled to England, Ireland, USA & Canada mostly, they estimate 50,000 arrived in England Alone...
My Husband's family on his French side were all Huguenots or descendants of. I have done Ancestry study of them over the years and made acquaintances with more of his Family through it, which involved both sides of his Family. New Zealand there is his birth name honoured by a Long Road as one of his close Ancestors set up Coromandel as a gold rush town and made the town successful. The French side areAumoniers and have a long history of shining in the Arts. Sculptors and like...Eric Aumonier to name one was a Sculptor and one or his works is the kneeling Archer outside East Finchley Station London. I'll leave a link and the end part states about the USA Huguenots which might be of interest.

I listen to the odd true crime thing here and there, mostly Casefile cause they're good at building suspense, don't do too much editorializing and I love the host's Australian accent.

Anyway, listened to their series on the Golden State Killer or however you call him months before he was caught, and can't say I was entirely surprised when it turned out to be a cop. Had the Sacramento LE listened to the cop who came close to arresting him in Visalia, lives could've been saved.

A Texas man invited people into his motel room. Then he sacrificed them and set them on fire, police say.

Quote:

Outside of the Mid City Inn in Euless, Texas, Jason Alan Thornburg was often seen reading his Bible, talking about God and expressing a desire to help people. He would pass out religious fliers and invite people into his room, denizens of the inn told local news stations.

Oh non ! WHy like this? One is très sympathiques !!

Guybrush 10-02-2021 05:58 PM

Joseph James DeAngelo (Golden state killer) comes to mind as well as Dennis Nielsen, though I guess the latter's stint in the police was relatively brief.

And more as well as several undiscovered ones, I'm sure.

Mikhail Popkov, one of Russia's absolute worst, was a coo. Bundy pretended to be a cop. Gacy blamed crimes on his multiple/other personality, the cop Jack Hanley.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Voisin

Catherine Monvoisin, or Montvoisin, née Deshayes, known as "La Voisin" (c. 1640 – 22 February 1680), was a French fortune teller, commissioned poisoner, and professional provider of alleged sorcery. She was the head of a network of fortune tellers in Paris providing poison, aphrodisiacs, abortion, purported magical services and the arranging of black masses, with clients among the aristocracy, and became the central figure in the famous affaire des poisons. Her purported organization of commissioned black magic and poison murder was suspected to have killed 1,000 people, but it is believed that upwards of 2,500 people might have been murdered.[1]

I'm gonna assume she was just a midwife. That's around the the time women folk medical practitioners were being demonized as witches.

Midwife, Yes but she became a Black Witch though...after Husband went bankrupt and she started the evil route to make money....same thing now Greed and Self Preservation.

You actually have some far back knowledge...she even tried to Kill Louis XIV in this link that is worth the knowledge gained..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Voisin
'Spells' it out so clearly now......
then they started killing the Protestants... not that long after La Voisin was executed..guess he got bored again...1685 Louis XIV's Edict of Fountainbleau. Had been previously been brewing up for years though. French Wars of Religion fought intermittently between 1562-1598.If your interested https://www.history.com/topics/france/louis-xiv a link about him and the times... and fine if not....Can you imagine this kind of thing happening now...Did you know? At the Palace of Versailles, aristocrats were expected to compete for the privilege of watching Louis XIV wake up, eat meals and prepare for bed.
