Unfortunately you needed a car (or bike) to get there, but these places were nearer to hand and more often had the honour of my custom:

Looked like a pretty cool pub, It's a shame that they closed.

I used to go to one with my dad and sister when we were kids (obviously didn't drink), had a pool table, tennis court, bowling green and snooker hall but they knocked it down
I really like the inside of this pub! It looks like a really nice and chill place to have a few drinks.

Ye Olde Man & Scythe is the current boozer of choice after the D&P was tragically put to an end. 4th oldest Pub in Britain, and a hub of paranormal activity.

I prefer pubs and probably clubs to bars. Bars need to make up their mind.
Damn, poor pub. It didn't deserve to go out like that...

Woah, I love the look of an old looking buildings like this one! Like 'Man like Monkey' said, it has a lot of charm!

Well aren't pubs n bars kinda the same

I never go to nightclubs because by the time I get off work I smell like ass and to get into some of these clubs u have to pay u have to dress in a ****in suit or like lame hip hop ****

Sometimes u have to bring a girl with u sometimes the bouncer is racist and won't even let u in for various reasons to many rules just to get into the damm front door

It's been 20 years since I've taken a trip "across the pond" and I've seen the insides of probably 100+ different pubs in my many travels there over the years. I haven't set foot in any of the pubs mentioned in this article, but it looks like an interesting pub crawl vacation idea...

^ Yes, the woodwork on the bar of The Bartons Arms is a work of art. I'm glad to hear that it's still standing.

Goofle's pics are great too. Ye Old Man and Scythe looks a nice place, but then I read "Rebuilt in 1636" on the front, so it's a mere 375 years old!

^ Aha! This answers a question I had in mind about how you knew Chiswick.

^ Thanks - that's a great list, with Goofle's very own Olde Man and Scythe at #9. I´ve actually seen pub #7, which is built up against a small cliff and dates back to the time of the Crusades.

This was one of my locals for several years: half hotel, and (to left, out of frame) half apartment building. IMO it is specifically the white and orange colours make it attractive, bringing out all the decorative details around the windows, etc - so of course someone got the shoddy idea of painting the "pub" part black, and ruining the harmonious look of the whole building.

Some bars can be interesting (even though I perfer pubs...except those with the word "gastro" in front of it..that seems to be a bit pretentious).

In Stockholm we have the ice bar..mainly for the tourists and open year round but you cannot get any "cooler" than this (carved completly from ice), They give you coats to wear and only so many can go in at once. Even the glasses are made of ice.

The oldest pub in these parts is from 1421...but again..mainly for tourists.

I prefer bars. One of my favorite bars of all time, Smokestack. They play Funk, Soul, Blues and Jazz. The prices for drinks in there are ****ing terrible, so me and friends tend to start of in places like Wetherspoons and then work our way through loads of bars, till we finish and dance at Smokestack. Such great atmosphere in there, and the ambiance and feel is just astonishing.
