And I live in Minnesota, so even that part is true. Damn, OH, you nailed it.

At least we have good music, I guess.

Thank you. The Bluegrass State has definitely blessed us with fantastic music.

Bourbon and baseball bats. That's what comes to my mind on the rare occasion that I think of Kentucky.

Maybe the Kentucky Derby, also.

If someone asked me to name all fifty states off the top of my head, Kentucky would probably be the one state I'd forget.

Yeah, that sounds about right. The north doesn’t claim us, the south doesn’t claim us, everyone else doesn’t care. We’re the ugly duckling of the United States.

I thought about that but W is a long ways off and Kentucky doesn’t even get credit for it and it is in fact Kentucky.

Red Foley was one of the most popular country singers of all time.

His beautiful voice is well showcased here on Peace in the Valley which was probably his most famous song and the last song he ever played shortly before his death

He also sang the original Smoke on the Water which wasn’t peaceful at all but celebrated the destruction of Japan. Released in midst of World War 2 it was Foley’s first big hit

Merle Travis is famous as an early pioneer on the electric guitar and for popularizing a form of fingerpicking commonly referred to as Travis Picking. Not being a guitarist myself I do not really know the exact nuance of what he did do first but to my ears there were a handful of black dudes who did it first and Travis acknowledged his influences. In any case, he was a fantastic and very influential guitarist.

Loretta Lynn is one of my all-time favorite country music singers. She’s signature Kentucky. Immortalized on film by Sissy Spacek’s fantastic portrayal in Coal Miner’s Daughter LL has some of the best laughs in mainstream country as well as some of the sweetest ballads.

**** yes. She's kinda sketchy though about how so much of her **** is about how her husband being a fuck-around and then she comes out with an embarrassing true banger like "Fist City". Like, maybe you should have just divorced the guy and not come off like a Springer girl. "Fist City" is in fact one of the hottest country tunes ever though.
