Today I learned, thanks to a documentary about the routinely-forgotten Persian Empire (circa 500 B.C.), that they gave us the word "paradise". It was Persian for "enclosed garden" and the Persians were the first guys to lay out gardens for reasons of aesthetic pleasure alone. Given how popular gardening is today, it was interesting to me at least, to learn where it all began. Also clear from the program: the pre-Islamic ancient Persians were way cooler than the hardline religious yoke that Iran currently lives under.

I was trial by fire when I got thrown into running a turret lathe while in between jobs. They showed me a simple part and how to make it, then left me alone with little guidance. I was pumping out graduated steel rolls for pipe bending in a matter of a week or two. I had quite a bit of programming experience though, so that helped.

Good luck on your 2nd installment!

Plankton 02-05-2020 11:44 AM

The software and tech has had a few years to refine since I've had my grubby hands on it. I can't remember anything about it other than the guy that was showing me the ropes had a hot wife.

I was a machine operator at a place that made propane regulator parts but yeah it was definitely a button pusher job. It was easy and chill compared to most factory jobs. Occasionally one of the machines would **** up and make the day more interesting.

Sonny Rollins said he wasn’t giving his best stuff on Tenor Madness (the title track only; not the entire album). Ironically, he says it was because he was playing with Coltrane whom he didn’t respect yet. It was in 56 which turned out to be a great year for Coltrane and playing on the Rollins classic was definitely a highlight.

Quote:

I wasn’t really playing. Coltrane was playing. I was only playing halfway, because I thought that I was the guy and that Coltrane was this young whippersnapper. That was my mind-set.

Then made a part on the CNC machine but that was just button pushing lol

got a 92 on the milling quiz and 96 on the turning quiz.... https://boxden.com/smilies/tv6aijN.png

TIL people who menstruate will take a piss without removing their tampon which results in peeing all over the string and apparently they're just like "haha, it sucks but oh well." I legitimately had no idea people lived like that. I'd rather waste a tampon than sit with a peepee string in my panties. Like wtffff.

Kinda like Plank. When you're fretting a string and it slips and creates a PLANK sound.

I do that a lot.

That’s a hell of a feather in his cap.

today I learned that people find it weird if you attend online meetings while sitting in your inflatable swimming pool

WWWP 06-15-2020 08:17 AM

this is why i never go on camera for my jobs weekly zoom meeting sessions lol
that and i don't want them to see me ripping the bong and calling out "oK sAnDrA" at full volume to no one everytime ****ing Sandra has to chime in.

Marie Monday 06-15-2020 08:24 AM

 that's what I do in the large meetings (minus the bong) but this is a small meeting where I'm kind of expected to show my face.
I just don't get why people are so uptight
btw I also have a Sandra in my meetings but she's great lol
