It's a lovely and catchy song, inspired by how certain species of octopi charm their mates, and one of the two only Ringo-written ones from the entire Beatle catalogue.



It's both interesting and heart-warming how they actually write the tune out

There could be a good joke made out of Ringo's contributions to the Beatles, but this one is just not-even-meh.

Also, you clearly did not watch the video I linked, as it's 20+min long.

yeah, "charming" is all I felt and got going for that video

Though it's only charming because of the "legend & legacy" the Beatles have
Not because Ringo has an actual "bad name" amongst musicians

It's all in good fun. I actually quite like Ringo's self-titled album. But my favorite Beatles album is Let It Be, so what do I know.

I like some of the songs out of that album. Mostly those written by the ex-Beatles (all three of them contributed songs, though they never played together on it)

Still, Ringo recording an album a year for the last 30 years or so, is just too much.
Like, dude, chill out and join a worthy band as a drummer.
You ain't good as a band-leader.

Im not that much of a hater of Spector's production as most are anyway, I just think it could've been better

I actually prefer the original. Just sounds richer to my ears, and I like Spector's 'wall of sound', "The Long and Winding Road" being a prime example. The original is the version I grew up with, so I'm sure nostalgia plays a role too. From what I've heard, Spector himself is a douche, but he had a good ear.

And yeah, I think if I were trying to be objective, I probably don't think it's the Beatles' strongest collection of songs, but it is the album of theirs I most enjoy listening to, if that makes any sense.

That's an interesting take.

I prefer the "naked" version of Long and Winding Road, though I really don't know why people hated so much on the original when it came out, and why McCartney was so against the Spector orchestrations.

It still makes for an amazing song (to me, at least)


It probably does.

It did so for me for a time, but then I started listening more to "Naked" after watching "Get Back", and it slowly started speaking to me way more than the 1970 release


That he certainly did.
I mean, he's one of the most revered producers ever. He created an entire style of production that inspired people from the 50s era, through Brian Wilson, to many of the really modern production designs.

I never knew how much of a monster that man was though, until I watched the documentary "20 Feet from Stardom".
Some of those girls, mainly Darlene Love, say some really upsetting things about the guy.

To the point where you start to question yourself whether you should still admire him at all.

I think the word "probably" bears most of the weight here.

These song could be some of their best. It's just that there's something off with the sound – as if there Beatles led their listeners through such bizarre and individual soundscapes, that this "back to the roots"/"all aboard" approach seems to be sub-par.
