I'm not into this sequel thing at all.

At first I thought Alien, but I don't think that is an example of a succesful filmseries either..
Alien from '79 was something complete new: A space-horror. On almost "lowbudget" they scared our pants off us with something we hadn't seen before.
The rest of the follow-ups manage on their own (in varying extent) but not in a sequel as I se it.

Yeah thats were you were wrong. Alien is a very successful series, though its not a trilogy.

Alien and Aliens were excellent films, though Alien 3 was meh and Alien Resurection even though it was from a very talented director, was still pretty bad.

The "Man With No Name Trilogy"
Fistful of Dollars = Awesome
For a Few Dollars More = not as Awesome
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly = Greatest Film Ever Made.

And of the Vengeance Trilogy, "OldBoy" is the stand out film of that series.

The only good movie in the Matrix trilogy was the first one.

The three colors trilogy followed very closely by the "dollars" trilogy.

The Vengeance Trilogy!!! Star wars is good too. LOTR is entertaining but has no lasting value.
