Yeah, man. The 80s was a much sicker decade than John Hughes made it seem. I found Heathers to be a more realistic depiction of high school than any Hughes film.

I just think it's a brilliant movie with many beautiful details that are a little easier to catch on the second viewing. Most of all, I like the humanity of it. After reading some movie forums, I see some people don't like the last bit so much ..

But I think that's a very honest portrayal of Jack's character change. Contrary to what many other films could tell you, people don't always change that quickly.

Anyways, as you probably figured out, the movie is about redemption through friendship and it's as much about Jack's redemption as Parry's. I think it's a great story.

Also, kudos to Jeff Bridges for playing one of his best roles ever. The Dude is fun, but I think Jack may be the more interesting character of the two. Robin is of course also good and I feel it's only appropriate to mention Mercedes Ruehl as well (Jack's girlfriend) who is, in my opinion, absolutely brilliant.

True Grit - the original version. I heard this 1969 version was better than the new one. I'm glad I watched it.

The backdrop of beautiful scenery enhanced this surprisingly sweet and honest portrayal of human characters, motivations, and courage. I especially enjoyed the role of 14-year-old Mattie Ross (Kim Darby) with her admirable pluck, dignity, and sense of very directed purpose. She really *did* have grit. She charmingly combined maturity and childish enthusiasm. She had some of my favorite lines, too, such as this one about alcohol: "I'll not put a thief in my mouth to steal my brains."

I was very surprised to see she had short hair. I hadn't expected that at all! It was rather refreshing to have a lead role played by a short-haired girl:

Kim Darby really *did* look amazingly like Justin Bieber!

She should get credit for the hairdo.

I watched Kill Bill before going out on Saturday. Had a pretty naff story, but I'm a choreography and camerawork nut to the point of fetishism, so I enjoyed it.

Every scene that Mercedes Ruehl was in made me cringe. She may have portrayed that type of woman very well, but I loathe/hate that type of woman. She's so typical New York. I'd sooner go after Perry's shy, clutzy girl than Jack's girl.

Like I said, she may have brilliantly portrayed the character, but I loathe the character. Focusing too much on a minor thing.

I didn't mind your spoiler at all. I think it's a respectable plot device to do that sort of thing.

As far as details, for example, Perry's boiler room is a nice little pad that I'm even jealous of. There's also a Brazil poster in Jack's office I think. I got a nice chuckle. I was waiting to read what you had to say before going back for a second viewing... which I'll probably do tonight.

I enjoyed the film. I had no qualms with it. Except maybe Jack's girlfriend is a typical, New York ****. Again, thanks for the recommendation. It's about that time for me to watch Brazil again, too, as a matter of fact...

I have no real beef with the kind of character she plays, but I guess if you do, that can get in the way. I've no special love for the kind of early 90s New Yorker gal in spandex, long nails and high hair, but I think Mercedes Reuhl brings that character to life in the best way and makes it possible to connect with her. She's vulnerable and strong at the same time, and very human and believable (imo). I see Mercedes won an academy award for best supporting actress for the part which I think was well deserved. Too bad Bridges didn't win any!

About the knight and other stuff ..

I don't disagree at all that she played the part extremely well. I just didn't like the part. No biggie. It didn't detract from my enjoyment of the film.

Watched this this morning. I was really surprised, I wasn't expecting what came about. I knew that it was an homage to the original Nosferatu, but I was expecting a Nosferatu with sound. It was amazing, entirely as innovative as the original-although they still called the vampyre Dracula and not Nosferatu-and it even went beyond that. I really love this movie: 10/10.

Taxi Driver
This movie had an incredible first half and Robert De Niro's character has instantly become one of my favourite movie characters, but I was a bit disappointed in the ending. I had hoped it would have been a more grandiose, lengthy killing spree, but it was over in a few minutes. Solid movie all in all though, 8/10.

It was very good, starts off very slow but I guess that is part of the charm. Very complex and satifying plot.

The red knight is a manifestation of the memory of the evening his wife got murdered. I believe the red colour and all the frilly bits are sort of meant to resemble the blood splatter from when she got shot in the head. Whenever Perry is faced with the past, the red knight appears. As for the vision of the killer that Jack has when he's broken into the house to steal the cup, I've also wondered. My kneejerk reaction was to think that the murderer is one of Parry's ghosts, but it's also Jack's demon. It's like the murderer doesn't want Jack to get the cup and redeem Parry and himself. Perhaps it's just meant to illustrate how Jack is fighting the "murderer" for the both of them. I don't believe the cup was really important, but getting it was the first selfless act of compassion from Jack. The other times before when he was nice, he was only doing it for himself. That selfless act which the cup symbolizes to Parry is what redeems him in the end, I think. Supposedly, the film is full of symbolism, so there's a lot to look out for. __________________ Something Completely Different
