SLC Punk!

Awesome film! Seriously this film just works. It's funny, honest, knowledgeable in its subject matter, has a good script and small but memorable cast, and a killer soundtrack. Essentially it's about two anarchistic punks living in Salt Lake City Utah in the mid '80's, which if you don't already know is not exactly what one would call an alternative lifestyle haven... yeah... having been there and living so close to it and a large Mormon population I think some of the jokes were a little more personal. If you are looking for a funny little independent comedy/drama about lifestyles based around music, definitely check this film out.

Incredible. From the over the top violence to the ever-present nostalgia, it was truly a great film.

Simply breathtaking, one of the most influentially brilliant films of all time. Some of the scenes rank among my absolute favourites. I can't believe I had this on DVD for so long but put off watching it. So minimalistic and simple, yet so dense and complex at the same time.

Watched 127 hours again last night on blu ray. What an amazing story and progression of a movie. Franco is just righteous in this role. Danny Boyle did not disappoint. The fact he could take something with seemingly no plot besides seclusion and despair and make it so entertaining was impressive.

I'll be looking for Boyles next movie, the cinematography was supreme, the acting was top notch and the reverence for life was inspiring. Awesome movie. 5/5!

Dante's Inferno (2007)

Pretty low budget adaptation Sandow Birk and Marcus Sanders' re-telling of the famous poem, moving it to a contemporary urban setting (Los Angeles). It's also done completely with hand drawn puppets and for the most part it works pretty well. There's some pretty decent voice acting although the only voice I recognized was James Cromwell as Virgil. There were a couple of funny jabs at modern day politics, although they did get a little too liberal douchey at times, but seeing Fox News in the 8th Circle (fraud) was pretty funny. If you have streaming Netflix it's on that right now, so if you're interested in the subject matter, definitely give the movie a try.

wow....i went into this knowing i would like it....i love all the other Planet of The Apes movies....and from the preview this really looked like a "you stupid humans and your vivisection" type movie....and it was....but it really delivered much more.....amazing effects, great story, and clever through outs to the original films.....i suggest for just a good time

One of the best British films I've seen in ages. I love black comedies, and this works upon a paradoxical brand of twisted innocence. It's very amusing, in a completely understated way. The setting is also great, it seems to all take place in a small village surrounded by mountainous, craggy Welsh countryside and a barren coastline. It all conveys this insular, shadowy atmosphere that, coupled with the sharp dialogue and soundtrack, gives the whole thing this darkly enchanting aesthetic. Really good coming-of-age film, and it's directed by Richard Ayoade, he of IT Crowd fame.

I've been rewatching a lot of my favorite movies lately. I rewatched Gummo, Kids, Y Tu Mama Tambien, XXY, Martyrs, City of God, Wendy and Lucy, The Weather Man, Kill Bills, and Let the Right One In. All 10/10s, or 9/10s.

For movies I've never seen I watched Fucking Amal(1998) on Youtube.

A young story about two young girls discovering their sexuality in a small town in Sweden. I absolutely loved it. The first half of this movie is pretty much perfect, then it focuses on the Elin character, who I didn't like as much as Agnes, but the second half is still great. I liked the upbeat ending a lot, I expected a downer, but it took me by surprise. 9/10.
