I just watched Joe Kidd. Further proof that Clint Eastwood is the baddest mother fucker to ever walk the Earth. If you fuck with him he will, without a second thought, run a train through your store and shoot every mother fucker in the place. Bad. Ass.

Fear & Loathing In Las Vagas

First time I've seen this one after seeing many other Johnny Depp one's and loving them, dunno what to make of it, bit strange, good in parts, bit dull in others.

Maybe it's one I need to watch another couple of times to appreciate it.

7/10.

Maybe I would have liked this if I saw it when it was released. However, I saw it yesterday and found it pretty boring. I much preferred Alien. Not that Alien is that amazing either. Mediocre action, story and the SFX hurt it for me. I am spoiled, I just saw Avatar over the weekend. sorry for the stream of consciousness writing.

Count me in as another hater and you say Wish You Were Here is unremarkable? Chariots of Fire is ridiculously bland and so myopic in it's depiction of our nation it makes me weep.

I am almost insulted that Chariots Of Fire is held up by so many when it's a horrible piece of film that celebrates middle class values as the epitome of our nation. I would take WYWH a 1000 times over Chariots Of Fire.

jackhammer 12-23-2009 07:10 PM

I watched this for the first time in a few years tonight and still get a little choked by this scene, especially when he puts his face against the picture. I'm such an easily manipulated guy:

Oh I get what you mean a lot but i'm a pussy with things like this and coherent thought by myself does make me laugh at myself a little. I did see this film when I was about 16 though and it did make an impression on me. Everything is really wrong with the scene apart from the picture against his head which was unrehearsed I think.

Watched this for the second time in a very long time last night and enjoyed it a lot more than the first watch. The action is fantastic and the story kept me on my toes. Plus, Selma Hayek is an absolute babe throughout the whole film.

And here I was thinking it was just a movie celebrating a great story of 4 college friends who accomplished something pretty remarkable.

Watched this for the first time as my Christmas flick of the year. I enjoyed it a lot, but it's maybe a little dated.

Death Proof.

Can't go wrong with Quentin, good solid film. Not the best, well worth a watch. Some good scenes and one brilliant scene imparticular, the first crash was brilliantly shot.

Cheesy ending but good all the same.

7/10

There was a period in it where I did lose total interest and my mind wondered off so I see what you're saying. But overall I thought it was a goodish plot, just didn't like the ending.

Yes, doesn't mean I liked it though. Bit of an anti-climax

I watched District 9 and Defiance last night while I was doped-up on a few pulls of Ny-Quil. I have been battling a ****ty chest cold for the past couple days.

Anyway, I found both of these movies to be pretty good. I had never heard the story of the Bielski Ortriad in World War II.

Continuing my Bruce Willis watching, this was my Christmas movie of choice:

How good was Defiance? Daniel Craig doing a Polish accent is enough to put me off. But I can watch it on Xbox live's Sky Player if I want.. Worth a watch? What is it actually about?

Not nearly as elementary as I expected it to be; found myself enjoying quite a bit of the dialogue, and the pacing, setting and general mood were all spot on. Long live the revamped Sherlock Holmes!!

I got a Twilight dvd for my xmas, because I was moaning about not being able to go see new moon with my friends as I hadn't seen the first, so yeah. I watched Twilight today, I found it to be awesome! :)

Edward Cullen, he isn't a vampire. He lives in the forrest, doesn't drink blood and sparkles. He's a fairy.

Everyone knows homosexuals are hotter because it's almost like forbidden fruit! :D Anyways, he's not a homosexual! :O

Have you ever wondered why he's so pale? It is dark in the closet..

Makes so much sense now. Btw, it's not like eh, I'm literally going to marry the guy... I just think he's good looking...

I saw this too...didn't quite float my boat though. The dialogue was mostly good, I'll give ya that. But the rest just seemed wrong...it didn't set the right mood for me at all.

storymilo 12-27-2009 02:24 PM

^I thought the same thing.... it was pretty good but seemed to drag on a bit, and wasn't really Sherlock Holmes like I knew him from the books. I do love me some Robert Downey Jr. though.

Oh, and there was an almost shamefully obvious plug for a sequel at the end. I hate it when movies do that.

Hey, I just checked out Twilight from the library a week ago, and was surprised to find I liked it a lot, too! More than New Moon, which is the latest movie I watched (2 days ago).

I just finished the Twilight book yesterday and realize now why fans were disappointed with the movie: much of the dialogue between Bella and Edward was cut out in the movie, making their impassioned love connection seem less probable. One thing I *did* like about Twilight, the movie, is that Bella is shown to be vegetarian, although she is *not* vegetarian in the book. I think the movie makers made this change to try to provoke some thought about the ethical issues of killing/eating/food choices and add a layer of depth missing from the books. Edward and his vampire family are to the majority of vampires, who never question being predators of humans, as vegans and vegetarians are to most humans, who rarely question being predators of non-human animals. As a vegan, I of course picked up on this issue right away.

I agree Robert Pattinson (Edward) makes a very pretty vampire. He also played Cedric in the Harry Potter series. I didn't realize that until recently. I just remember, while watching a Harry Potter movie, thinking what a beautiful person Cedric was. He looked so clean-cut and heroic!

FETCHER. 12-27-2009 05:57 PM

Yeah I know what you're saying. I was on the fence about wither I wanted to read the book first or watch the film, I've watched the film now and I think that's better because then the book will seem amazing to me :). So I'm not fussed. It was an awesome film, and I'm persuading my mum to go see new moon with me tomorrow haha! :D

Clooney was great as usual? Ocean's Eleven was good, Burn After Reading was good.

Urm.. I'm stuck after that.

debaserr 12-27-2009 08:41 PM

as a personal performance. i dont judge actors based on how good their movies are. he can act. but my favorites are Micheal Clayton, Syriana and "Good Night, and Good Luck"

TheCunningStunt 12-27-2009 08:53 PM

I never thought of Clooney as being a particular good actor but then again I don't set out to really watch his films after a few absolute shambles I've seen.

Guybrush 12-27-2009 09:24 PM

Twilight felt like a drawn out episode of some teenage drama like Dawson's Creek - only more embarassing because it had an emo moralistic vampires in it that glitter in sunlight. Bloody hell. I mean - it's too embarassing to me, but it has production value and if you don't think it's embarassing, then I can see why the movie might have some appeal. Still, I don't get why teenagers would go ape**** over it ..

Seriously, bland drama with vampires. For love stories, there are better films out there. For vampires, there are also better films out there. Even mixing the two, there are better films out there. I don't get it, but then again I'm not a teenager.

I wanna watch Sherlock Holmes. I've read quite a few of the stories and watching the trailer, he doesn't seem like the Holmes I know - a character who strives to remove all emotions from his life so that they won't interfere with his skill at reasoning and deduction. Still, I guess it might be fun so I'll just try and lower my expectations for the character and hope for a funny film.
