Then if you count The Hangover for the 5th time.

yea that kept annoying me too. i think the premise and intro were great but after that it lost steam.

I am currently watching "Animal House".

Just watched Moon and Zombieland. Equally satisfied with both... They met my exceptions but didnt go above them.

Moon through me for a loop for a second because I kept thinking how ****ed up it would be to in his shoes.

Zombieland was a fun zombie movie.... I enjoyed it.

Brazil on it's first viewing can be a little confusing. Wait a year or two and then watch it again. Bet you a dollar you will love it. ;)

The last film I saw was Black Dynamite, a 2009 action comedy parody of the blaxploitation flicks from the 70s. The movie is grainy, acting is awkward, plot doesn't always make sense and there's just bucketloads of cool and jive talk and the like. It was actually quite funny. Up until I saw it, I had heard very little about it which I thought a bit weird considering how "standout" it is.

Check out the trailer. It describes it perfectly. ;)

Before that, I saw L.A. Confidential. I have no idea why I haven't seen it before. Kevin Spacey, Guy Pearce and Russel Crowe are three very different cops investigating a murder case which, of course, turns out goes quite deep. They and the supporting actors do a brilliant job and the movie is entertaining from start to end .. at least it was for me.

Warmly recommended to anyone else who haven't seen it yet.

500 Days Of Summer.
I hated it,really really did.

Lizard Queen 02-10-2010 10:50 AM

I watched 'The Box' last night with Cameron Diaz...didn't like it, wasn't anything I thought it would be. It got all weird towards the end, very science fiction like.

ElephantSack 02-10-2010 11:03 AM

I saw Zombieland last weekend. It was pretty ****in' funny.

But something I saw that was tripped out beyond all belief was Howl's Moving Castle.
http://www.impawards.com/2005/poster...ing_castle.jpg
****in' CRAZY!! It got cheesy toward the end with the dialogue, though.

Violent & Funky 02-10-2010 11:49 AM

Brazil doesn't make sense. Maybe you have to be British to enjoy it? I have no idea, I just know that I was glad when it was over...

I'm far from being British, but that film is definitely one of the best I've ever seen. You definitely need to watch it again, if you thought it made no sense.

Why would you say you have to be British to enjoy it? I'm not British and it's one of my favorite movies and, incidentally, it was made by an American.

And what do you mean it doesn't make sense? It's a kooky movie but the story is relatively straightforward.

Guybrush 02-10-2010 12:11 PM

Brazil is actually one of my favourite films as well.. And I'm also not a brit. ;)

The first time I saw Brazil, I thought it was a bit chaotic and all over the place. It was still a positive experience that definetly left an impression with me, especially the ending. However, it wasn't until a couple of years later when I watched it for the second time that it really clicked with me. I felt like I really got it. I think roughly knowing the overall plot and the direction the movie takes helps you see more details and some of the things that are buried just a little deeper and so when I recommend it to people, I always mention they should watch it again sometime later in life. :p:

Out of the Terry Gilliam films, The Fisher King is my favourite by a gnat's whisker. I've connected with and love the plot and characters in that movie more than in any other drama I've seen although I'll admit that Brazil is the more interesting of the two. Both these are films I've owned now for years that I watch again now and then. I make sure I don't get tired of them, though.

I liked brazil... but I was hoping for more 1984ish. I read somewhere a few years ago it was suppose to be called 1984 but another movie already had that title that year. I mean it had large amount of elements but didn't fit the bill completely.

Actually, Terry Gilliam admits in an audio commentary to Brazil to never having read George Orwell's 1984 although he did say it was an inspiration. :p:

I much prefer the title Brazil which of course is a reference to the song Aquarela Do Brasil (now usually just called Brazil) .. which is used in the movie to represent Sam's dream of love and freedom from the suffocating society he is and becomes more so a victim of.

I absolutely love Howl's Moving Castle, it does get pretty mind-fucky at some points. Maybe a little cheesy too, but whatever.

Spirited Away is even better though, if you haven't seen it go watch it right now.

I watched this the other day, completely tuned out due to its utter lack of magic as the cartoon the Wind in the Willows has. I love British humour, but these guys just looked like fat men with animal parts being irritating.

All I remember from reading Wind in The Willows is that the there was a scene where heaps of toast were described and I was ****ing starving then.

Is that weird?

Miracle at St. Anna
This movie seems to have gotten kind of mixed reviews but I enjoyed it. It's not the best Spike Lee movie and I think it was a little longer than it needed to be, but it was a gripping, moving piece of cinema.

Finished this about half an hour ago. Lovely little story it was and all. The photography and cinematography throughout was pretty astounding too.

***1/2

Nicholson's best performance in a long time. This is a great movie, both funny and tragic, Alaxander Payne really knows how to create characters are that are both funny and someone that you geniunely feel sorry for, the movie is about a widowed, retired actuary who goes on a cross country road trip to stop his daughter from marrying a redneck waterbed salesmen, Kathy Bates is a scene steller as the mother of Schmidt's future son in law who has certain "needs".

The acting is good all around, Nicholson and Bates especially, but Hope Davis is also good as Schmidt's daugher, and Dermot Mulroney as his future son and law who tries his best to bond with Schmidt.

I love Payne's style of editing and cinematography, like Election the sight gags is where a lot of the humor comes from, the one scene that always gets me is the wedding scene when Schmidt is giving a speech and he's talking about one of his son in laws and how he's a "very thoughtful young man" and then you get a cutaway to the guy.

I won't spoil much for those that haven't seen it but if you enjoyed Election and Sideways then this one is definetely on par.

I am not an atheist but I still found it hilarious how serious people take religon.

I laughed my ass off when he fried the guy with the 2000 dollar suit and ****. Plus the part where he was talking to Muslims about killing infidels.
Plus the Rednecks that was going to whoop his ass
Plus The Holy Land or whatever theme park...

You know what I laughed through the whole movie :P

Precisely, it has an excellent thing going on with Danny and his poor collar, I think it could be so much better. I still enjoyed it alot, and Danny's a champ. He's so simple in the film it makes me so sad. I cried twice whilst watching it, don't tell anyone :D

If you like director Mike Leighs preoccupation with characters on the fringe, then this low budget downbeat comedy is a must. Two Dublin junkies spend a day trying to get a fix and get into all sorts of scrapes. Both honest and savagely funny without resorting to seedy dramatisation or caricature, it's a great little movie that once again got buried amidst commercial humdrum banality.

Sounds cool but damn Netflix doesn't have it.

It all looked too easy. It felt like they were thinking "Hey! Let's make a film with all the characters being bi-sexuals, and we'll get them to juggle their interest!!". It was all too predictable. Btw, I didn't really get where is the "edgy" part?
Well edgy in the sense that you just don't get to see any mainstream (meaning, not directed at a niché market, with good actors and a solid script) movies dealing with characters who are bi(or/pan)sexual. It's just refreshing. How many films with bisexuals as main characters have you seen? http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...wer/neznam.gif

Quote:

About the music: all the songs are just examples of cliché French pop. As I grew up in a very French style society, I got quite fed-up with this kind of corny music. The French can be the greatest, music-wise, but when it comes to Pop, they should stop imitating the Americans.
French Folk Rock was certainly the root of all the songs in the film, but this "American Pop" arrangement ruined it. That's without talking about the lyrics... Very bad lyrics: "I want to taste your saliva, and let its poison go through me" or "The worm of the apple may go through your teeth and rot you heart, your mind and your whole body - but the worm in the apple can go through me, and make me ecstatic" or even "Let your tongue strike me gently, let it cleanse my whole body". They should have just shut up.

I think that is the first time I don't side with the gay couple in a film
Ok well I didn't really pay attention to the lyrics, as I usually don't. I just liked the melodies.

Well mainstream French films are all like that. Sexuality was never a big issue there... and that film shouldn't have been in the official Canne selection.
