I used to feel that way as well. There's a lot of crap out there, but I think horror is the most fertile genre for fascinating character studies. Fear is just plain interesting. If it's not your thing that's cool though.

Psychological thrillers should not be confused with horror movies.. I feel like most of the good "horror" movies actually fall into the former category(in my limited movie watching experience). When I think horror, I think blood and guts from monsters and supernatural things, not Saw, Psycho, etc.. Psych thrillers can be gruesome, but don't have to be, and that isn't the point (which is why they are so much better).
