I too scream Shrek when I'm murdered on a molecular level.

Joker was brilliant. Hwokeen Phoenix is a goddamn force of nature. I had been told that the movie was realistic, but I didn't expect it to have that much realism. Really threw me for a loop. I'd recommend seeing this great take on mental illness. Not something that demands a theater setting though.

Spoiler for conspiracy theories:
Aight, so the film makes some delusions blatant but I think that it leaves some under the surface. I don't think that he or his standup clips appeared on the TV show, it was just a natural place for him to rely on for his issues given how he had turned Murray into a father figure. His delusions are largely driven by stressful or traumatic events, so he could have legitimately met Thomas Wayne and had a series of delusional events that lead to the climax of the film. I think that he had a narcissistic interpretation of a protest that didn't involve him and killed Bruce Wayne's parents. Also his psychiatrist at the end was the same one as before which could suggest that he's been in Arkam all along, but I don't think that's the case since she said that the earlier psychiatrist office that he saw her at was closing down. She could've just gotten a new job. Idk if I read it on here, but I read somewhere that this joker was the person who inspired the joker in the Dark Knight because the Heath Ledger joker talked so much about his father and I think that's a pretty strong case.

I want to watch it again but I feel comfortable with a 9/10 for now

Do you think the movie will start any dialogue about treatment of the mentally ill or about how mass shooting discussions should include society's complicity in creating them?

Cause I mean I think the movie was pretty explicit in calling out society as a whole as being responsible for a lot of things they like to pass off as being simply the responsibility of the perpetrator.

We Live in a Society: The Movie

I agree on the direction but overall I'd say maybe. Hopefully this will be the piece of art that inspires humans to not act like the ****less dirtbags that we've always been.

Yeah but I mean do you think anyone will talk about it and extrapolate meaning? Or will it be praised as a good movie and any meaning ignored cause nobody wants to think about anything uncomfortable?

I think you're only asking because you know that the answer is depressing.

Totes. It's like if anyone asks if Columbine happened because kids were tormented by other kids in a school where there was no accountability for bullying the asker is accused of victim blaming. The point isn't blaming the kids who got shot as there's not necessarily evidence they did anything specifically but I highly doubt everyone in that school was innocent of doing something to those kids who were susceptible to mental instability and/or were psychopaths.

Weren't the Columbine kids bullies though? I think they're kind of a different case, they just opened up the doorway of possibilities that the demographic that you're describing latched onto.

Were they? I don't know. But I'm not even spearheading them as emblematic of the problem so much as one more symptom. I mean bullying has existed throughout human culture presumably for as long as human culture has existed. The confusion of what it means to be male in society now has confused many as to how they should even act without any real alternative, the loss of the "American dream" through late stage capitalist decay has robbed the youth of what they were raised to believe they were capable of, American consumerism has conditioned the public to see themselves not as human beings but as inhuman digits on a pie chart for advertising firms. Humanity itself is simply a degraded simulacrum of what it once believed it was when even that was a simulacrum of something that it never understood in the first place.

Throw the "common" degradation of being treated as a loser into the mix without proper mental health support and we're reaping what we've sowed.
