Pretty good though felt too preachy at times.

I love this film. I just saw it for the first time and it was one of the most beautiful and poignant films I have had the pleasure of viewing.
5/5

It was pretty good. I enjoyed it quite a bit, the only real complaint I have is that it is over the top ridiculous in some parts that should have been done more seriously.
3.5/5

I love this film. I was never turned off from the concept, and it did not seem gimmicky to me, as it apparently did to many critics and viewers. This is by far David Fincher's best work and it's great to see him improving as a director.
4.5/5

I thought it was really good but the excessive similarities to Forrest Gump kinda turned me off. Good movie, but definetly not the best of the year.

swim 01-11-2009 03:28 PM

I thought it had a lot of parallels with forrest gump too. I like Benjamin Button a whole lot more.

cardboard adolescent 01-11-2009 04:26 PM

hamlet 2 was great
they came back was good but hit too close to home

Gran Torino

****ing awesome film... went to see this Friday with PaperHurricanes. Made me laugh like hell and shed tears as well. Brilliantly made. Cleverly executed. Dialogue wins though, hands down. Ya Italian prick barber.

It's a short story, the only thing they really took from it was the concept (man lives life backwards). The "feel" of it, for lack of a better word, was completely different.

The same screenwriter wrote both, which is why they were similar. I've only seen 7 movies made in 2008 so far, so I couldn't really fairly say that anything was the greatest.

Not a bad film, but nothing really set it apart from the standard road trip movie, and some of the characters got rather annoying. Great soundtrack though.. between Animal Collective, Elliott Smith, M. Ward.. yep.

This was surprisingly very good. I had terrible expectations for this going in but I had to see it because I love Rick Gervais. I thought that Hollywood writers good make an unfunny movie even with the funniest man alive (IMO) but I was wrong, it is hilarious and cute little romantic comedy.

Basically my thoughts on it too.

Flyboys and Where the Buffalo Roam.

Flyboys was pretty good although I had very low expectation for it.

WTBR was amazing. Muchhhh better than the modern version with Depp. (Fear and Loathing)

jackhammer 01-12-2009 03:52 AM

Decent little chiller that does'nt resort to typical teenage cliches. Also worth it just to see British Actress Emily Blunt:

Slightly messy revenge thriller with a few loose ends and gaps in logic but for a very low budget film it is certainly watchable and Gillian Anderson is still hot :D

Kevorkian Logic 01-13-2009 07:09 AM

The Butterfly Effect: Directors Cut

and

Quills (I didn't even remember this movie coming out, but it has quite a few name brand stars in it, and won some awards so I assume it must have been big)

Kryptonite 01-13-2009 07:03 PM

I saw Yes Man with Jim Carrey. I was pretty disappointed. He used to be funny. Now, it's almost like he just takes what he gets. Zooey Dashanel is adorable though.

Did he used to be funny? Granted The Mask was stellar but I much prefer him in his serious roles: Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Man In The Moon etc

cardboard adolescent 01-14-2009 03:19 PM

Truman Show is probably still my favorite Carrey movie

jackhammer 01-14-2009 03:24 PM

I could never quite get into that but I should give it another watch as it's been a few years.

cardboard adolescent 01-14-2009 03:35 PM

maybe being surrounded by American "culture" makes it more poignant

FlapstheVulture 01-14-2009 11:27 PM

Real Time. An amazing lower budjet film about a hitman and a kid whose time is up. Really dry british (i think) humor. with one of the best endings ive seen
watch it free at watch free movies

I think Liar Liar was funny. I prefer sarcasm to slapstick but he wasn't too disappointing in the 90s

I had really big expectations going into this movie and it really didn't let me down at all. It's the best I've seen this year. But I still need to see Revolutionary Road and I feel like that will take the cake for me.

Quixotic, surreal, touching, melancholic and even a jet of black comedy running through. One man's promise to his friend that he should be buried in his birthplace produces a gem of a movie. First half hour is a little loose but once the 'journey' begins, you are sucked right in. Brilliant cinematography of the Texan landscape by celebrated British cinematographer Chris Menges.

I saw My Bloody Valentine last night, it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated, but it was still bad.

I've seen both Slumdog And Revolutionary Road. But I think Slumdog is a bit better. RR is kind of depressing.

Saw that St. Trinnians the other day....Heaven knows why. :/

Did you see it in 3D? I figured the movie itself was going to suck hard, but I was completely psyched to see it in 3D...but it was sold out. :(

DashDangerous 01-17-2009 06:08 PM

It's school holidays in Australia at the moment, so I have had a triple threat of crap films: High School Musical 3, Twilight and Bedtime STories.... but I have been sowing my wild oats on DVD with Thriller: A Cruel Picture, Ilsa: The Wicken Warden, The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (the original), Long Weekend and Fair Game (the Australian one, not that piece of **** with a Baldwin in it).

cardboard adolescent 01-17-2009 09:35 PM

can someone recommend me a good movie?

sleepy jack 01-17-2009 09:38 PM

Something David Lynch directed?

Sparky 01-17-2009 10:10 PM

Gran Turino-
Clint Eastwood is great, but some of the script is really awkward and out of place.
The ending was underwhelming, considering how much build up throughout the film leading up to it.

Notorious-
seemed like a straight to BET film that somehow got a large budget and was sent to theartres. And even though its nothing against the actors, its weird to see actors the roles of people who are still alive and popular..
It was aight, the kid who plays 50 cent as a child is wonderful.

Appaloosa-
I enjoyed it a lot.

An absolute pile of crap. All those childhood memories are a now a little tarnished.
