He doesn't really seem to have the hang of non-mafia movies. I remember not liking Cape Fear a whole lot either, but that was a long time ago. He should make a film with a female lead.

I just rented "A Serious Man" on a whim. Watching it right now. That's first on the docket, with "Glory" to follow :)

Came across as a Coen Brothers film for the sake of it, because they're the Coen Brothers. There's no easy connection between what actually unfolds, and what we're supposed to contemplate from it.

It had some moments. Unfortunately, I personally wouldn't recommend it. Maybe I'll give it another go-round before taking it back... Some afternoon delight tomorrow.

I don't agree with this at all, and that is essentially saying that Mean Streets, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino and The Departed are the only good films he's made since they are the only ones that have to do with the Mafia. And yeah, that's ridiculous.

Raging Bull has Mafia elements but it's not a Mafia movie. Taxi Driver, Aviator and Gangs of New York were not mafia related and were all great movies. Last Temptation of Christ, King of Comedy, Bringing Out the Dead and Color of Money are also good.

Only Scorsese films I didn't like were Cape Fear and Kundun.

I still need to see Mean Streets, The Departed, Casino, After Hours and Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, the latter of which I know can't be anything like that tv show it was spun off into.

The Departed was my finest film experience the year it came out. You should definetly see it asap, Boo :)

This one friend of mine said the acting was ridiculously hammy, but he's a guy I tend to disagree with a lot.

A lot better than I thought it'd be. I liked what they tried to do with the remake anyway, as in make the whole affair seem a lot creepier, and give the story a more sinister edge overall. Jeremy Irons did a good job with Humbert's role as well. Predictably enough though, I'd still have the original over this any day, mostly because Kubrick's one tries to get more characters to drive the plot, whereas this one focuses entirely on the rather dodgy relationship at the centre of it all. Plus the remake lacks Peter Sellers, who basically stole the show in the original adaptation.

When he leaves his comfort zone the results don't turn out as well as they could, I think you're right there. Hmm a female lead, that'd be different. Although I do like Leo :D but it'd be interesting for a female lead, but what kind of film is he capable of writing for a girl? The main character could be a prostitute :D and based around the streets, that could be a good plot.

Us > Scorsese.

Doesn't really hold up when all's said and done and done and said. Worth a gander though, especially as it's all on youtube in its entirety.
