In the Name of the Father is the movie with Daniel Day-Lewis where I finally understood why people call him the greatest actor of his generation.
I recently watched Dead Ringers where Jeremy Irons plays a couple of twin gynecologist. They have this working dynamic until a certain woman enters their lives and things turn crazy. It's a drama with some typical Cronenbergian themes / touches, though not quite as many as usual. The movie was better than expected to be honest, actually very good, and I was pleasantly surprised with Jeremy Irons' acting chops which turned out impressive. I mostly associate him with stuff like the dreaded Dungeons & Dragons movie from the early 2000s. Well worth a watch. |
I'd check it out. Jeremy Irons has a beautiful voice and you can't go wrong with anything remotely Cronenberg.

My wife and I watched this on Amazon Prime - we went into it thinking it was a documentary on a real missing persons case - and it sold us on that and got us invested. By the end though, my poor wife was in a near panic attack because of how crazy it got and it was around that point when I realized "Oh, this is a found footage mockumentary type movie". She hates scary movies, so I'd have never managed to get her to watch it with me if I knew and told her it was a horror movie. Great movie though. |

Day-Lewis, known for his extreme method acting, insisted on staying in character during the production of the film, refusing to do anything that Brown couldn't do. This meant that members of the film crew had to move the actor around in a wheelchair, lift him over obstacles, and even feed him. |

Thief Why'd it take me so long to see this f*cking masterpiece? This is better than Snatch. This is better than Goodfellas. This is better Drive. Ughhhhh, so good. |

Sounds like he conned a bunch of wage slaves into being his servants tbh.

Calling a movie about gay people gay isn't funny. It's dismissive. |

Literally it's not. It focuses only on the main subject's sexuality like it's the 90s or something. It's regressive and stupid. Like if I went around describing films with straight characters as "straight". It's a movie about two people falling in love. It's a romantic drama. But bros be bros.
Incidentally, I didn't like it much myself, like any of his other movies. |
I actually thought it was a beautiful film but I forgot jokes about sexuality around you are forbidden regardless if they're funny or not.
|
Nah I just don't get bro humor.
|
Ja I gotta say that adidasss fingerwagging over jokes is always gonna be way funnier than the jokes themselves.
|
Ehhh I thought it'd be funny to post that instead of an actual thought provoking response to a beautiful film about LGBTQ love that I found not only endearing but also extremely well shot and acted.
But, you know, Adidasss just thinks I'm some lacrosse hooligan dumbass with no capacity for art and human experience. |
They don't have humor in eastern Europe. Just beets.

You're such a dickhead.

I think you can joke about just about most things as long as they're good jokes. But if people take offense, that's the time to be considerate - and even more so if you're a mod. To not do so is unbecoming.
|
Agreed, calling someone a dickhead is neither funny nor considerate.

I've also had this idea of moderators being the most mature and considerate members of the forum so they can keep things in check and moderate internet behavior effectively like in the days of yore but it's long been clear this isn't the case with the current MB leadership (ironically, we actually have one supertroll as a mod). So yeah, somewhere along the way things went wrong and now we're just stuck with what we've got... :/ |
Let's see here...
That everything? Both of you can f*ck off. Is that mod like? ... https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41M8mZVGKEL.jpg Ratcatcher Lynn Ramsay can do no wrong. She might be one of my favorite working directors today. This was poetically beautiful. Tragic and real. Totally recommend this. |

Okay, well someone has to be an adult here.
So why don't you guys go into your neutral corners and take a deep breath? Getting personal with each other isn't going to solve anything. It is what it is, as Adidass says, so maybe we just accept things as they are. At least we are allowed to voice our displeasure here without having to worry about getting banned. That isn't always true on other forums. Believe me, as an ex-mod on one of them, I know. PS- Where in the world is Marie? |
I'll admit I'm super dooper cranky today.
|
I'm sorry you're offended Adidasss but I'm really glad you're not a mod. I'd hate for members's sense of humor to be censored to the level I think you'd be most comfortable with. It's good to have mods that that aren't like that.
|
It was the dumbest attempt at a joke gif I could come up with and it sent Adidasss into a tailspin because they honestly have zero capacity for humor when it comes to LGBTQ subject matter.
The ironic part was that I was going to write a nice review of Call Me By Your Name because I thought it was a beautiful film but went with a sh*tty joke gif instead. Doesn't matter. I'm insensitive I guess. |

Anyways, I'll continue putting my point of view out there in the hopes that someone will understand. But no, I wouldn't censor this kind of thing. Just point out how stupid and insensitive it is. ;) |
