I found the 48fps a bit distracting at first, which sort of wore off as the move went on (guess I got used to it). I thought the film went for far too long - LOTR worked because it was three big books made into three big films, but The Hobbit is going to be one normal book made into three big films... so naturally I thought Peter Jackson had to stretch the film out for longer than it should have gone, meaning there were many superfluous scenes... it was okay but disappointing.

I saw this a long time ago and just caught it on TV today. Really good movie, but, knowing it was based on a true story, there were so many parts that I couldn't help but roll my eyes at, thinking that they were just going over the top to dramatize it for a Hollywood film. Reading up on Abagnale after the movie, it's insane at how similar the script was to his real life. They even took direct lines from his public speeches and put them in the movie. Hell, there's a lot of stuff that they even left out.

I think the only major thing that happened in the movie that didn't happen in real life was him getting married before spending time in prison. Other than that, there weren't a lot of major things they added in.

That guy has to have led one of the more interesting lives that a person can live.

I saw the Hobbit.
I got exactly what I was expecting to get - a kids story that would like to be a video game. The part when they were running around the goblin king mines, it looked like a freaking platformer.
Guilermo del Toro should have done this, it would be a lot darker and less silly. Or maybe Monty Python back in the day, now that would be something.

Yeah, I saw The Hobbit yesterday, and I thought it was mixed too. I'll just put this in a spoiler to be safe.

Spoiler for Spoiler:
Some of the action scenes just looked like they were in love with their own ability to choreograph action scenes and were just ridiculous. The scenes about the Necromancer were definitely interesting, but they went on too long and took away from the main story. After Rivendell, I felt almost completely disengaged from the actual journey. That said, some things were absolutely fantastic. The scene in Bag End with the dwarves and Bilbo was just wonderful. The humor and the singing just brought back a lot of the whimsical character of the books that the original movies lacked. Bilbo was looking to become a far more engaging hero than Frodo, but the lack of focus on the journey in the middle of the movie kind of lost that to an extent. The scene with Gollum was probably my favorite Gollum scene of any of the movies. He really truly just looked unhinged and disturbing in a way that I never realized hadn't quite been pulled off before. And the very beginning had to be my favorite part of any of the movies. Erebor and Smaug (even if you never saw him) were just amazing. Wished I'd scene it in 3D.

No it wouldn't. Not on current form...
Anyone who went to see "Ted" expecting anything other than a rehash of FG jokes and a lot of crude humour was just kidding themselves, it would seem. I didnt see it but even I can guess how it went. I have no desire to see such a movie, but if you went expecting anything other than another sacrifice at the altar of Seth MacFarlane's ego, more fool you...

Les Misérables

It was SOOOO GOOD. Loved it and recommend it to anyone. However, if you are not familiar with the story, I strongly suggest you read this plot synopsis first - SparkNotes: Les Misérables: Plot Overview. I heard from people who never read Hugo's original work or who never saw the musical on stage found it a bit hard to follow the characters and the story.

But even if you already know the story, it's excellent. Highly recommended.

Ugggghhhh why did I think this was going to be good? I'll never get those two hours back. I hated it. HATED IT. I've only seen writing that bad a handful of other times and I've seen a **** load of bad movies. I was very disappointed that Ti West had a major hand in this because I loved The Innkeepers and The House of the Devil so much. I'll try to ignore that and wait for another gem of his. I just kept wondering why somebody could write, film, and edit a this movie and not go "wait, are we really going to do this? This part doesn't make sense and no human being would really say that". The acting was atrocious in most parts and like I just said the writing was just horrible. It was like a bunch of guys got together one night and in about 45 minutes had a bunch of cocktail napkins with scribbled plot lines and twists and decided to make a movie with what they had and not change a thing. Do yourself a favor and NEVER watch this. It's not even bad good. Just bad.

This film seems to get a lot of hate, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Yeah, it was just the same ol' same ol' from Seth MacFarlane, but Family Guy and all of his other shows have either been going downhill or just plain sucking complete and total ass for years now, and Ted was the best thing he's done in forever.

I didn't expect Ted to be anything but Family Guy in a different format and nor do I think I ever stated that I did. The only way Ted disappointed was by being, in my opinion, more boring than Family Guy. I expected it to be about as much fun.

Well, it is a kids story. I get what you mean about exaggerated CG, though, and I also prefer latex and ketchup. As for the exaggerated action scenes, it did get a bit hectic, but at least I feel it fits somewhat with the fact that, unlike LOTR which is more of an account of simply what goes on, The Hobbit is supposed to be told (well, written) by Bilbo who is free to exaggerate and fantasize as he wants.

Footnote

Israel's nomination last year for the Oscar's...the film is about the relationship of a father and son who both are scholars in a particular field of Hebrew history but approach the field in two different manners. I won't spoil the actual plot device revealed in the film because it was a surprise given the back story of the main characters but I will say that the films use of this device made it a memorable film to me. After looking up the movie after watching it I found out it won best screenplay at Cannes and I feel that it was well deserved. The cinematography was streamlined and edited very well and the performances were very good from the two leads. Overall I'd recommend this one. It had instances of humor and sadness but never went pedal to the floor with either of them. Some may find it boring or being guilty of not accomplishing much but those people probably don't like slow burners and prefer Shia Labouf (sp?) running around yelling at things.
