You know, as bad as the Schuemacher are, they did have a certain sense of flair that is neat, like how Gotham City looks like I imagine the Roman Empire would look if they lasted to today. Plus they did some aspects of the comics right like Mr. Freeze when he was imprisoned and made a dancing ballerina out of things he had in his cell.

I think they did a good job from what technology they had! Mr Freeze is awesome. Would you say you prefer the latest series of Batman?

not that you asked me for my never to be humble opinion....but I like the latest ones because they are very well done... I enjoy the old ones too but not as much as I like Nolan ones... I lost interest in them when George Clooney had nipples on the bat suit...

I really like the newer ones too but honestly I can't remember the older versions so can't really say for sure which is better. Can you believe I fell asleep trying to watch it for the second time? It's as if it was boring or something! I really am turning into a grandma.

Yes and no. I can appreciate Christopher Nolan's take on the subject matter and the fact that he was able to prove you can make intelligent movies about superheroes but I'm not 100% onboard with the mentality that you need to go the dark and gritty route to do it. In someways the Nolan triology has prolonged the misconception started in 1986 with Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns that Batman was always dark and gritty and Miller was just resetting the status quo.

When it comes to the two Burton Batman movies and the two Schumacher movies I can't help but see they're more or less the same beasts, just with different aesthetic designs, but both have the same basic flaws in all of them. The focus on stunt casting big name actors as the villains was a problem throughout all four movies and some basic story structure problems were all issues that didn't really come up as much with the Nolan movies, so I think that's why those three are so often regarded as the best of them all.

That's a very interesting take on the Batman franchise, I have to say that I have enjoyed the dark take on the Batman movies that Nolan has taken. I need to rewatch the others in order to decide which is my favourite reboot. I will certainly take what you have said in mind when I do watch them all.

The only slight issue I have with the success of Nolan's trilogy is that the execs now feel that other superheroes need to be dark and gritty to be successful. I'm not on board with a dark and gritty Superman movie. I'm not excited for Man of Steel and I'm most likely going to just pass it up completely.

I don't think superheroes need to be dark and gritty to be sucessful, I think if someone see's a Batman movie is coming out they are going to see it regardless. Do you know how many comic nerds there are out there? Like zillions.

I guess my only real gripe with the Nolan trilogy is we're two pointy ears and some character names away from being a completely different franchse. That's not a bad thing though, sometimes you need to take a look at a source material from someone not intimately involved with the source material, that way you can find out new things about it that you would have never thought. With characters as old as Batman, you need that otherwise the character will begin to stagnate.

It's a pretty weak criticism I admit, and to be fair to Nolan, he really did throw a lot of shoutouts to some of the past Batman comicbooks in The Dark Knight Returns so I think I'm just talking out my ass, making controversy for the sake of making controversy.

Also, no conversation about which Batman movie is the best would be complete without mention of the best Batman movie

I dunno, I think Man of Steel has some potential, it will at least look pretty, and you get to see General Zod by way of Nelson Van Alden. Plus if it succeeds then there's going to be a Justice League movie to compete with The Avengers 2 in 2015 and I want to see if Warner Bros has the capacity to make good superhero movies that aren't Batman, because so far there record is pretty crap.
