He didn't call you an idiot, he disagreed with you.
And i've never banned anyone for disagreeing with me in any thread let alone one of mine. So you can drop that analogy right now. Stop acting like everybody's out to get you.

I'm not trying to take over the thread or anything, this is just an observation I've made from a few newer games. Is anyone else becoming tired of this cliched "grindhouse" style entrance video games have been using to introduce characters? The screen goes to this weird colour and tilts at an angle then you see the character's name with usually a small tidbit of information about them, usually in a humorous manner. I saw this in games like Wet and now in Borderlands. Not only that but I saw it in a movie I saw earlier this month called What a Wonderful World: WWW. It was kinda cool at first, but now it's just boring.

i think it depends on the game. for something with very stylized visuals like Wet and Borderlands i think it works great. i can't comment on Wet (only played the demo) but in Borderlands it works really well as a momentary breather to get yourself psyched up for a boss fight.
while i agree it could easily become an overdone cliche i don't think we're really near that point yet. unless it's happening in modern warfare 2 also haha |

save states really are a double edged sword.
on one hand you're totally right that abusing them cheapens the challenge of the game to the equivalent to an interactive animated gif file. on the other if you're just playing a game for nostalgic reasons i don't see the point in giving yourself excessive frustrations. especially if it's a game that uses weird passwords or only allows you to save at certain points (if ever). personally, if i go back and play a classic from my youth like 'mega man2', i don't want to have to dig out graph paper to write down password charts. i don't want to have to start at the beginning of each stage every single time i die. that doesn't mean i'll save state after every jump but i would after most major transitions, or before the boss fight. i already beat that frustration in grade 8, i don't want to have to do it again when i just want a shot of nostalgia. for this reason i think save states are fantastic. abusing the option to make yourself look 'l33t' is just lame though haha |

I could also approve of using them if you keep trying and trying to beat a certain part that's nearly impossible and you get desperate enough, but it just feels more rewarding to beat the game the old fashioned way. Last edited by boo boo; 11-19-2009 at 12:13 AM. |

Some of the platform jumping can get pretty fustrating though, but that has more to do with the level design. Like those f*cking girafe heads. If you want a Disney game with bad controls try Toy Story. Last edited by boo boo; 11-18-2009 at 10:06 PM. |
