I think it's pretty overrated. I mean it was pretty fun and all but I played through it once havent played it since, worth a rent maybe but not a buy. And I got the bad ending, I mean you kill a few kids and that makes you a bad guy?

Yeah, I know. It was pretty stupid of them. I think they should have included EVERY old school sonic game on this.

Yeah, they excluded Sonic CD from Sonic Mega Collection, which was a very bad move, so they released Sonic Gems Collection to compensate, it features the more obscure Sonic games, such as Sonic R and Sonic the Fighters, which are ok, but Sonic CD is the game that makes it worth owning.

And they STILL haven't rereleased Knuckles Chaotix.

That game is like some kind of tortureous science experiment.

Boo Boo,

thoughts on sonic unleashed?

boo boo 11-28-2008 08:44 PM

Don't have it yet.

I'm obviously not surprised by the less than steller reviews, but at least it's getting better reviews than the usual new Sonic game.

It seems the new Sonic games are just decent, I'd still call that an improvement I guess.

The main criticism behind Sonic Unleashed is the whole werewolf thing, which I knew would be retarded from the get go. Though I've read that the normal Sonic stages are excellent, and the game would have been a lot better without the werehog gimmick.

This seems to be Sega's problem, because the same criticisms have been made of other recent Sega games like the NiGHTS sequel. They break away from the original formula and try to cram in too many new features that distract from what the game should be about.

Now me personallly, I thought adding a lot of variety worked just fine for the Sonic Adventure games, and even if you don't like all the stuff they crammed in, at least in both of these games you can actually speed through a level, as Sonic, alone, without guns and not on freaking rails or any other added gimmicks.

C'mon Sega, is it that hard?

I will give Sega credit for this, at least they're having other developers handle the new Sonic games instead of just Sonic Team. They need to let Dimps develop all the Sonic games for now on, or hell, let Treasure make a Sonic game, that would be awesome.

Kirby 11-28-2008 08:50 PM

I'd love to see Rare make a sonic game.

Definitely.
I started playing, and was actually like "They seriously released this?"

boo boo 11-28-2008 08:51 PM

Ehhhhhhh.

Sega already tried the fetch quest gimmick.

It's such an incredibly broken game.

"Ok guys, I have a great idea for a Sonic game, lets take away Sonics speed, in fact lets make him slow as hell, put him in an isometric maze where he has to collect 3 keys, which he drops all the time because it's impossible for him not to get hit by something, he constantly has to pick them up over and over (and they disappear if he can't get to them in time), then he has to drag his slow ass to the impossible to reach door at the end of the maze to progress to the next stage, did I mention we should add as much sh*t as possible like bumpers and conveyor belts to make it f*cking impossible to even get to the other side of the room? Oh and add a time limit."

Awful game. It's the worst Sonic game I've ever played. Yes, worse than Shadow the Hedgehog.

boo boo 11-28-2008 10:09 PM

Been playing Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse

Believe it or not, Mickey has been in some really underrated platformers for the Genesis and SNES.

Case in point. Castle of Illusion is a great little platformer for the Genesis, the hit detection isn't perfect and the game overall is shorter than it should be. But I really like this game, surprisingly great graphics and music, especially for an early Genesis game.

Sparky 11-29-2008 12:28 AM

To go back to Sonic--

I read an interview where one of the people (maybe 1up?) aked one of the producers why don't they just go back to the roots, making it all sonic all the time.

And the guy gives the reporter the exact speed and height of sonic, and tells him how much level they would have to make, and it's some ridicoulous amount of virtual mileage, that would still amount to an incredibly short game, and i have felt pity for sonic team and sega since hearing that interview.

Its not like mario where you can get away with making a giant hill with blocks and people will enjoy it.

I think the next sonic game should be downlodable exclusive to XBLA, PSN, and wii ware, and follow the vein of remakes like bionic commando and mega man, just with hd graphics.

Everybody still likes the DS/GBA sonic games.

boo boo 11-29-2008 04:22 PM

A Sonic game with 3D graphics but a 2D perspective, why can't they just do one on home consoles?

I don't get it, a crappy licensed game or FPS that will take you 30 minutes to beat and you'll never play again yet it's worth 50 bucks, but a great 2D platformer that can keep you playing forever isn't?

C'mon, Nintendo just released Wario Land 5 on THE WII, and it's not even a wiiware game, and the upcoming Kirby game for the Wii is gonna be 2D too. Nintendo haven't forgotten their roots, nor have Capcom. Sega need to take note, because the only way they're gonna get out of this rut is if they go back to their roots.

2D games need to make a comeback to home consoles. They're not losing popularity or anything, look at the virtual console games, they're selling better than the actual Wii games.

Haha almost the same for me :p: (Add in the occasional Team Fortress 2 game)

Digital Devil Saga as well.

Molecules 12-03-2008 03:33 AM

Chrono Trigger on good old ZSNES. And Super Mario World to aid in the subliminal absorption of music. You know where you stand with Guided By Voices and a blue shell Yoshi

Predator 12-04-2008 07:02 PM

I got bored with Banjo Kazooie, so now I'm playing through all the old Final Fantasy games.

Kevorkian Logic 12-07-2008 07:21 PM

I have been playing a ridiculous amount of rock band 2 recently with a bunch of friends.

I know it doesn't really count as a true video game, but it's pretty fun.

Dr_Rez 12-07-2008 09:40 PM

Today has been Morrowind Game of the Year Edition with TONS of mods and plugins.

I've always wanted to play Morrowind. I played Oblivion and thought it was pretty good but I hear Morrowind is WAY better.

Seltzer 12-07-2008 09:59 PM

Yeah, Morrowind is a pretty good game even if all the travelling around pisses me off.

Far Beyond Driven 12-07-2008 10:03 PM
