I've had more than a few people tell me GTA4 got boring while playing through the single player mode. It really all depends on the environment you like, you like modern urban tough guy gangster action, get GTA4 - you prefer wild west cowboy action, get RDR, you might also enjoy the later Assassin's Creed games as well.

Where you call yourself old school you'll probably enjoy a lot of the smaller games sold through the PlayStation Network. Either use your credit card or buy prepaid cards at the store and download smaller scale titles. Hardcorps:Uprising is a straight up Konami made homage to Contra.
really? why? one of my best pals told me that game was the best shooter game ever made in his opinion and that's big coming from a hardcore gamer...that'll be perfect for my situation since people are always at my house ..
well i love the tough urban gangster stuff and i love cowboy stuff too so i think i'll just get both of them..RDR sounds a bit more interesting to me plus i've never played a western cowboy game so this shall be a first
what games can i get that are old school? i love sonic ..i seen a game called sonic generations laast week at gamestop for about 10 bucks but i didnt get it i'm kind of pissed off that i didn't do so because yesterday when i went back it was gone :/

Good guy Valve... 75% off because of the Steam Summer Sale.

Got into the CS:GO beta. w00t.

Just played the gun game and it was a blast. All of the weapons feel good and there are even some new ones. They deliberately made most models look way different than their old versions, which confused me for a few minutes.

I like the movement a lot more than Source (no glitchy jumping or clipping so far for me).

I assume the beta will run up until the release, so it's pretty sweet to be me.

I got into the beta a week ago and I completely agree with your observation. the only thing that bugs me is the lack of FOV options (unless they put it in later that is)

Sorry I'm taking so long to reply. I think my beef with Bioshock is that it played out too much like a series of levels instead of a grand environment. There were a lot of veteran developers who worked on the System Shock series that were involved with Bioshock and the thought of another X-Shock game set my expectations a little too far out.

Sonic Generations looks good for that old school style but if you actually want old games you can also try finding a copy of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection - you get like 40 games on a single disc.

If you haven't checked out the Playstation Store through your system yet I strongly suggest taking a look. There are more than a few games they only sell online that have that old school feel with modern presentation. Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light is another really good one.

The Uncharted series is kind of a must have in that case. Popularity wise it's hard to beat Call of Duty or Battlefield. Unless you play online they get kind of boring kind of quick, but at the same time it's like playing through an action movie when you know exactly how the campaign plays out. Gran Turismo 5 is also fun for racing once you get used to how it controls. Little Big Planet 1 or 2 is another one to consider.

On the Playstation Store check out Shank, Bloodrayne Betrayal, Awesomenauts, Joe Danger, and the previously mentioned Hardcorps:Uprising and Lara Croft games
