Frostbite 2.0 you say? Have they finally lived up to the promise they made with the orginal Bad Company and actually made things destructible?

Battlefield 3 Destruction Footage - FROSTBITE 2 - HD - YouTube

This doesn't show Caspian Border destruction, which includes fences, trees, shrubbery, etc

For some reason, I spend lots of time throwing things at people...

LoathsomePete 10-16-2011 06:21 PM

I was trying to play that the other week, but for some reason my game is skipping a lot, and the colour scheme is a bit messed up. Maybe I'll try uninstalling it and then re installing it and see if that clears it up, or just look on the Steam Forums to see if anyone else has been having the same issues.

In the mean time I've been playing this all week:

http://cdn1.gamepro.com/box/box_164021-hd.jpg

Having read the novel I'm pretty happy with how well it follows the events of the novel. The author's detail was also used quite heavily and is pretty noticeable which is pretty cool when you get a game that's written by a professional rather than a 13-year old fetal alcohol syndrome baby we get with most video games nowadays. It is a little frustrating though, when I have to spend $30 for a used game which has some noticeable bugs and glitches, whereas the game was on sale this week on Steam for like $2.99, but that's the deal you get for a gaming PC I guess. It's one of the most immersive games I've played in a long while and look forward to playing it more once my homework is finished.

Anyone have Arkham City? Game sounds ace.

Heading over to Gamestop tonight I think to preorder muh copy of Skyrim :D

Guybrush 10-18-2011 02:37 AM

Just bought Little Big Adventure and The Witcher on gog.com. LBA was 5.99 and The Witcher was a mere 4.99 .. I could spend more on a lunch!

The current Atari Collection Promo there is pretty awesome :)

If it helps make your mind, the second game was absolutely fantastic. Especially in co-op.

It looks like I`ll end up playing both games, anyway I seem to remember playing a game similiar to Battlefield several years ago now and it may have been an earlier Battlefield game or something similiar but I can`t remember the name of it. It basically had you as part of team and gave you the option of controlling your teammates as well in a number of different strategic moves.

yay! my fiancee got me the first Taito Legends (comp of old arcade games)

Bubble Bobble, here I come!!!!!

i don't think there ever was another game which evokes romantic memories for me (i was with my first gf when i played a lot of it)

Well, regardless of the advertisement of destructibility, DICE isn't going to make absolutely everything destructible. There has to be a balance between destruction and retaining the flow of a map.

If everything was completely destructible, an entire map would be leveled quite quickly, and we'd just be playing in piles of rubble. While being able to destroy everything would certainly be fun, it wouldn't do much for actual gameplay.

With that said, the destructibility is varied. Some buildings will come down completely, while others that are integral to map design will remain largely intact, with their facades being destructible to reduce cover. Other things like immobile cars and such will explode. Brick wall cover can be chipped away or destroyed with explosives, etc.

Frostbite 2 isn't just about destruction, though. It's about the entire game engine, which is completely rebuilt.

Did someone find their old video game systems underneath their box of vintage playboys?

I've been playing Rage, apparently one of the best looking game if you install the whole 3 GB of game on your hard drive. It feels and plays like a beefed up version of Borderlands, pretty cool game.

Be prepared for the extremely abysmal ending.

I'm not in my 30s just yet, but I am definetly a nostalgic gamer and have my XBMC Media Center PC set up with tons of old games (for C64, Amiga 500, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and more). Instead of getting discs with old games that you play on your PS2, have you checked out emulators? You can easily emulate games for most consoles on a regular computer. If you have a USB joypad and can connect your PC to a TV, then it can be a pretty nostalgic experience.

yes i have tried emulators

they're not quite as close to the original arcade versions as the ones I have on my PS2 - well, the Taito, Capcom and Midway comps, anyway - because the programmers tried to stick as close to the original arcade graphics and sound as possible

the Sega ones look nothing like the arcade version - and there's still not a decent Space Harrier arcade version emulator on the PC, i've only found the Amiga one (which was only ok) and the Genesis version (Space Harrier 2), which I didn't quite like

Do you ever remember any of these games, all adventure games. They were Commodore 64 and Amiga games.

Cruise for a Corpse
Operation Stealth
Colditz
Eureka

I`ve been reading what you and Tore have written above about playing old games. How does somebody find these games and what do they need to do/install on their PC or console to make them work?

well, I'm not really sure these days - i haven't used emulators for ages - took too much hardwork tracking down the codes for the games (some were also inaccurate), and too many emulators to choose from - you really have to ask tore about that

these days, I just buy programmed retro arcade games for the PS2, Rainbow Islands, The New Zealand Story and Bubble Bobble on my Taito Legends comp are as close to the coin-ops as I'll ever get, short of buying the whole machine myself

the Amiga versions of these games are also nowhere near the comp I got, it didn't have the "feel" of the arcade versions

when I think about it, i have more nostalgia being in the arcades than consoles or home computers - the arcades were like a second home to me as a child

I have playable roms of all of those titles. Setting up an emulator is easy. Figure out what emulator is the most popular (for example from emulator-zone.com) and get it. Then get the roms (games) you want, for example from a torrent. Then fire up the emulator and load the game. Il Duce is really making it seem harder than it is (imo). Emulation now is usually pretty much like opening a file in a program, for example opening a text file in notepad.

With a bit of work, you can set up a computer with a media center that you can run your games from. To do that, I've set up XBMC with Advanced Launcher on my own computer. Then I run it on the telly and control it from my couch with my XBOX controller.

Here's a selection screen for different systems :

http://i.imgur.com/HCK0Wl.png

And here's a random title when browsing Super Nintendo Games :

http://i.imgur.com/Dz4y8l.jpg

When using this, I don't run emulators manually. That's all going on in the background. I just choose the game I want and press a button.

Of course it's also a nice way to play your movies or music. I love it!

Hey thanks this is really helpful and I`ll look into it. These games were games I really loved when I was younger and all of them I never managed to finish as they were all too hard (gamefaqs wasn`t around then)

October 25th will be a great day. I am going to murder my Econ midterm and proceed straight home to play BF3 for hours on end.

Until then, I am doing very little in the way of gaming.

Indeed it will be.
I've got BF3 downloaded, and am just waiting until Tues, 2AM, CDT.
I don't have class on Tuesday, so I'll get my sleeping out of the way after school on Monday. lol...

Oh, btw, I changed my Origin ID. New name is CheapViagra
Add me when Battlelog opens.
And at some point, we need to play the co-op together! I gotta get a headset though. Will do that soon.

I love throwing on some old PSX games every now and again. Earlier then that I can't really get down with though cause I didn't grow up with those games.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Just started it. The original is my favourite game of all time, hoping this matches up somewhat. Even a little!

Honestly, most "professional" critic reviews are such crap. IGN regularly sucks Activision's dick, EA was recently caught manipulating scores for Battlefield 3, and it's all generally one big circle jerk between publishers and gaming publications that I strongly suspect has something to do with money.

If you really want to know whether a game is worth playing or not, YouTube some Let's Play videos and see what third-party forums are saying. I'm not saying Uncharted 3 won't be awesome, I'm just saying that I don't take "critic" reviews seriously at all.

Also, I heard that Uncharted 3 already has 7 DLC packs planned. That's just.... insane. In a bad way.

If by "getting it at midnight" you mean "I already pre-loaded it onto my computer, and all I have to do is press play", me :p:

LoathsomePete 10-24-2011 05:28 PM

At that same token I'm sure the reviews for Uncharted 3 are going to be high across the board because they were high for 1 and 2 and not much changed between each game. In an effort to stay as safe and profitable as possible I imagine nothing much will have changed for the third installment.
