Yeah I've completed Dark Forces a couple times years ago and Played some of the first Jedi Knight game on my original Xbox a long time ago. In retrospect, not really a fan of any of those, but I've had my good times with Dark Forces back when I had to play every single FPS game I could get my hands on.

A few other old FPS games I used to play a lot: Wolfenstein 3D, Catacomb Abyss, Blakestone 3D, Witchaven 2, Hexen, Heretic, Blood and Eradicator. Definitely not all of them that still hold up today...

Have a lot of nostalgia for the first Dark Forces game, was actually the first FPS game I ever played. The sewer level used to really freak me out as a kid lol. It's a bitch to get running in Dosbox though (with the disc), so haven't been able to play much of it in years.

Need to find out what's wrong with my old XP that keeps going to shit, because there's a ton of DOS and Win95/98 games I have that I either haven't played in years or haven't played at all that I'd like to.

Wolf3D, Heretic, and Hexen are great. Haven't played any of those other games, are any of them good?

I'm pretty used to the DosBox/Daemon Tools combo for running games with CD images, so I might be able to help if there's something you can't figure out.

Catacomb Abyss and Blakestone 3D are worth checking out if you like Wolfenstein 3D. They're quite similar to that game, with Blakestone basically being a sci-fi version of the same game
concept. There's also a Blakestone sequel named Planet Strike or something. Catacomb 3D is an old favorite of mine. It feels very old, even compared to Wolfenstein 3D, but it's got buckets of charm. There's a large amount of enemies to see and interesting things like exploding walls, stages with ankle deep water and skeletons that come out of the walls. It's primitive, but a lot of fun. Especially the first episode (each episode has it's own sub title, so Catacomb Abyss is the first episode. Witchaven 2 is a broken piece of ****

, but I played it a lot back in the day. I even built my own stages that tried to fix some of the worse aspects of the game. Sadly, those are lost now

Blood is widely celebrated as a great Build engine game. I got tired of it and think it's a bit unbalanced and annoyinng, but as long as it's still new to you, you would probably have a blast exploring it. It's got a pretty cool horror themed thing going and is quite creepy and atmospheric. Episode one was the best. After that it gets a bit annoying. I recommend not playing at too high a difficulty level, but I do recommend checking it out if you like Duke3D and Shadow Warrior.

Eradicator is pretty obscure and feels a lot like a build engine game. It's got some odd sci-fi themed graphics and will not seem very appealing at first. But the well kept secret of this game is that it's pretty solid and has some inventive features and a large selection of weapons. Also has some pretty big stages and a cool, ambient soundtrack. And 3 characters to play as, even! I like it quite a bit, but it's an odd game, admittedly.

Didn't realize that Catacomb Abyss is just one episode of Catacomb 3D, I've played a bit of that.

I'll definitely check out the rest at some point, except of course the one you said is broken unless I find it dirt cheap at a thrift store just to satisfy any curiosity.

Witchaven 1 and 2 are definitely more a nostalgia thing for me. Pretty bad games if I take the rose tinted glasses off. Back when I played a lot of Witchaven 2, I guess I was just happy to be playing anything new (it was hard to get new games back then). If it's got one thing going for it, it's the unusual theme. It's somewhat realistic feeling medieval fantasy with mostly melee weapons. The two-handed sword is the most fun, but it's a shame that basically everything in the game feels off. Unresponsive controls, weird movement, bad hit detection, sound effects that feel delayed, etc. It's a mess...

Played some more Ultima Underworld. Figured out how to look up and down! And how to use torches, write on the map, and how to sleep. This game likes to be slightly less than obvious about how to do simple things.

There's some weird physics happening when you walk - collision detection with the very early, kinda primitive 3D engine - which causes you to sometimes walk slightly sideways when you're trying to walk straight. Quite annoying, especially if you're attempting precision jumping.

Still an interesting game and I'm definitely going to keep going. Got a lot of areas left to explore on the starting floor and a few mysteries to solve. Hope I find a key that works on two doors that I think will lead to something important.

Also, the inventory system needs to die in a fire. Have fun putting bags inside of bags inside of bags and move things around a lot while trying to find the damn thing you need to use right now. Biggest problem so far, but I still like the game.

EDIT: Don't you just love old games with poor documentation? Searched the web for a while and figured out that in order to fix the sound problem (no sound playing, just music), you have to find a file named uw.cfg in the game folders and change the contents from

You can walk around hidden, open peoples bags, and have a chance to steal their items without them even knowing...
You can punch mountains in the wilderness and turn your materials into armor.. open a shop in the busy areas and sell your goods to other players.
There is a huge custom pirating system to fight, board, and sink player and npc ships out in the ocean.. custom cannons and crew members to recruit.
Go treasure hunting, go dungeon farming, tame creatures to fight along side you, player owned housing that exists in the world.. I just can't say enough good things about this game, if you can handle the brutal chaotic world and losing stuff on death alongside the very dated graphics this game is the closest thing to DnD anyone has ever achieved.
Server I play is averaging around 1000 unique players on at a time and just had a $500 cash prize PvP tournament for the release of the servers arena system.
This is an amazing sandbox and since its from 1997 it will run on youre computer.

You get 700 "skill points" and can bring any 1 skill up to 100 skill points.. most people build characters with 7 skills at 100 or like a mix of 4 skills at 100 and 4 skills at 80 and under.
