Just found out that Shane was killed so early on because Kirkman wanted to make sure his story was told, so he accelerated it due to fear that The Walking Dead was going to be cancelled due to unpopularity.

That really hurts.

The Batlord 11-24-2018 07:17 PM

Only ever watched the first season of the show so I had to look that guy up and lo and behold he's also the Punisher from Netflix. Well whenever I get back to Walking Dead I know which guy I'll be rooting for.

BassoonPlatoon 11-25-2018 04:20 PM

Just found out that in Zorro's initial appearance by Disney 1966, his full codename is given as Zorro the Fox.

The Batlord 11-25-2018 05:28 PM

Zorro first appeared in print in 1919 and on film in 1920.

The New 52 Wonder Woman has her base of operations in London.
I think that sets her up perfectly for a V For Vendetta or Da Vinci Code crossover.

There's no way War Bears isn't a furry comic.

DwnWthVwls 11-29-2018 03:28 PM

Poor Hitler's tooth.

BassoonPlatoon 12-13-2018 08:19 PM

I like The Killing Joke, but I think it is rather overrated.
Tim Burton said it was the first comic he ever “loved”. It is without question an iconic piece of Batman lore, but I feel it takes the spotlight away from other things that deserve to have time to shine.

The Batlord 12-13-2018 08:28 PM

Yeah it's overrated. After the first time you read it the flashbacks become tedious and uninteresting.

BassoonPlatoon 12-13-2018 09:22 PM

Kingdom Come, however, I think gets the right amount of praised. The way it started off was in my opinion devastatingly sad. Such a powerful way to start a story.

The Batlord 12-21-2018 12:17 PM

Currently waiting with baited breath for my plastic comic bags to come in from Amazon "before 8pm" so that I can spend the next two hours bagging and boarding comics and thinking about how I now have to read all these ****ing things or else why do any of this? Comics are a ****ing job, mate. Think I'll catch up on Spider-Man/Deadpool first and then write journal entries about it cause ****ing Spider-Man/Deadpool nawmsayin?

Oriphiel 12-21-2018 12:27 PM

Nothing like reading and bagging comics while playing a movie in the background. Preferably The Warriors.

The Batlord 12-21-2018 12:30 PM

My only problem now is that I have no really good place to put them. All my shelf space is either taken or too small. I'm honestly thinking of just going full nerd and getting a comic book box just so that if fabled company ever comes over and asks me what that box in my closet is I can inflate with pride and tell them the plots of ever single issue contained therein.

I'm thinking Tenchi Muyo tbh. It's been years and it's on the mind atm.

DwnWthVwls 12-21-2018 01:57 PM

Batlord where can i find 2019 release info for graphic novels? Stuff like Fables not super hero stuff.

The Batlord 12-21-2018 02:06 PM

I don't ****ing know. I love comics but I'm not the Rostasi of comics.

DwnWthVwls 12-21-2018 02:10 PM

What good are you...

The Batlord 12-21-2018 02:16 PM

Ask me about Archie Comics. Nobody knows what the **** is going on with those guys so we'll be on equal footing.

MicShazam 12-21-2018 02:23 PM

I haven't been keeping up with graphic novels for the last few years, so I could only name some older ones worth checking out.

Got several comics on my shelves I haven't even read yet.

Jughead tries to make burgers out of chemicals, ends up with one that tastes like ass. However, the the formula turned out to give him super strength so he goes on to be a football champion. Then he eats too much and loses his power, but it turns out he didn't even need it in the first place once Archie tells him that there's a sale at the local burger joint where you work.

That's what's going on with those guys.

The Batlord 12-22-2018 03:25 AM

I mean Archie Comics has a terrible system for making announcements. I guess nobody's cared for decades so they never bothered but it still sucks.

BassoonPlatoon 12-22-2018 11:39 AM

A lot of people claim that the DC roster is too other worldly to get interested in or intrigued by, but I think it has so many similarities to Marvel and that’s why I enjoy both of them. I’m not sure I see where this argument is coming from when Batman really isn’t too much of a stretch of the imagination.

The Batlord 12-22-2018 11:42 AM

Imagine the Avengers taking on the Justice League and that's why.

BassoonPlatoon 12-22-2018 01:40 PM

The one DC argument that is actually legitimate is the idea that they focus very heavily on Superman/Batman, but most comic companies do this. Marvel does it with Captain America/Wolverine/Spider-Man. Even the valid criticisms are rather porous.

The Batlord 12-23-2018 02:01 PM

Bags were a day late but spent two hours yesterday bagging apparently almost 100 comics and barely had enough bags and boards. Watched Tenchi while doing it and was one of the more relaxing and satisfying times I've had in a while. Now I'm watching more Tenchi and reading Spider-Man/Deadpool while being sad that I only have the first nine issues and two of them are filler. And I have the first five issues of Mockingbird... sans issue #4. Also missing issues from Spider-Woman's last two series. I'm thinking I need to go on My Comic Shop and Midtown Comics and see about filling some gaps in my collection

I don't care what anyone says. Omnibuses might look nice on your shelf and trades might be a cheap way to collect but nothing feels as friendly in your hands as a single issue.

Oriphiel 12-23-2018 03:21 PM

Bought the first trade of Superior Foes of Spiderman for my sis for Christmas :pimp:

The Batlord 12-23-2018 05:11 PM

****in' nice. I'm assuming you've read it?

Oriphiel 12-24-2018 04:39 AM

Not the whole thing, but enough to know that it's awesome.

This is the way most people should end their coversations, but especially those about comics.

Like for example, I don’t care for the Mary Jane relationship with Spider-Man. Don’t care for it. But, I’m not going to go out of my way and try to ruin it for those that do like it.

You should check out the rest. It's consistently fantastic. Like, Boomerang and Captain Boomerang are essentially the same character but Boomerang in Superior Foes is as good as either character are going to get and he's like crack. The same writer (Nick Spencer) is actually now writing Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man and Boomerang are now roommates and possibly becoming besties and I'm all about the blossoming bromance. Apparently Spencer really ****ing loves writing Boomerang and refuses to stop regardless of whether or not he should. Peter Parker becoming buds with douchebags (whether it be Boomerang in Amazing Spider-Man or Deadpool in Spider-Man/Deadpool) is just delightful.

I really need to read more of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol cause what I read was as great as Morrison ever is, but the Young Animal imprint has some good ****. I read Shade, the Changing Girl a little while ago and it was fantastic.

I feel like the perfect stuff for a beginner is older, crossover titles. Unless they just want to follow a certain character. If it’s the latter though I don’t think the person would really be asking for recommendations.

Lol, that sounds awesome. I've gotta finish it sometime. My personal fave was Shocker. ;)

I actually haven't read much of Shade. Pretty much just the Milk Wars issue (which was gloriously ****ing weird).

The Vertigo titles are all rather good. All of them are like modern Grimm tales. Fable is another one I would mention specifically to new readers.
