(Plus, there's probably something significant down there he's going to encounter, based on what was said about the well.)

I'm not completely satisfied with the way they brought Libby back either, but at least they're acknowledging her again. And her presence in the alternate timeline may still be significant both there and in the main timeline. I think, though, in the alternate timeline, her checking into the hospital had something/more to do with her having the "delusional" memories of the main timeline, because when Hurley went to see her, she implied that those memories came to her before she got there.

What I'm curious about is what Desmond hoped to achieve by running down alternate Locke--what effect that's supposed to have.

And what role Locke (real/dead or otherwise) still has to play in this. Because according to the the lighthouse, Locke is one of the 6 numbers and it seems like all the numbers (4-Locke, 8-Hurley, 15-Sawyer, 16-Sayid, 23-Jack, 42-either Sun or Jin) all have to be together to leave the island or do whatever is supposed to happen.

Also, wtf happened to Eloise to make her so clairvoyant about everything (in both timelines)--to a degree that no one else seems to be? That's been bugging me for a while now...

I dunno, I think she stated that she started having these memories when she was already checked into the psych ward but I could be wrong.

As for Eloise, it's likely that she was the first person to figure out that the nuclear explosion sucessully created an alternate timeline.

Also, Jack gave her Daniel's journal back in the 70s which probably explains how she knows so much about future events such as Desmond's fate on the island, though it doesnt explain how she knew about the significance of Desmond not buying the wedding ring and various little random events, so I dunno, maybe she's just a super psychic or something.

Maybe. But I thought she said something like "And then when I got here, this place was really familiar and it felt like you'd been here too" or something.

*shrug*

Ah that's right, I forgot about her getting the journal. I dunno, I feel like that's definitely part of it, but yeah--I'm not sure it's the whole story there.

And while we're on "What's the deal with..." mode, I'm still waiting for some explanation about what Walt has to do with any of this nonsense--cos clearly it's something. He keeps being casually mentioned/referenced, but hasn't really done anything in 4 seasons...

Yeah, what the explosion did apparrently was prevent all the events that took place that lead to the plane crash, because of that, that also undid the events of them traveling back in time which meant the explosion never happened, thus the Dharma people survived.

If that isn't confusing enough, it's made more so by Miles' contradicting theory that Jack inadvertently created the incident that started everything in the first place. Though that's really theoretically impossible, how could the plane crash on the island if it only crashed because of something the survivors did on the island which is something they only could have done if they had crashed on the island, which was caused by them after crashing on the island.

Wow, what a paradox. So that theory is out.

So if they didn't cause the incident what did?

The greatest question though is, if Jack and company successfully prevented everything from taking place, which appears to be the case because of the sideways timeline, then why are they still on the island with everything as it was? Shouldn't all that be erased from existance?

Most likely it has to do with alternate timelines, and the idea that a new future can be created, but a predeterimed one can't be erased.

But f*ck if I know, that's all I got for now.

I have a theory that the "alternate time line" is nothing more then a deviation. In other words, in the "flash sideways" we're seeing how the universe changed directly after the bomb exploded. The survivors will find a way to undo that, thus restoring the "original timeline" when they all woke up in the jungle at the start of the season.

so yeah. the latest episode...

to me, if feels like the people behind the scenes are starting to force answers. the well, the wheel, the light under the island... it sort of explains things, but not so much.

so we know that Jacob and MIB are bros. that MIB is in fact dead. but who is there mum? where did she get her special powers? where did she come from?

two episodes to go, and there is a lot left to explain. i really hope i'm not disappointed in the end...

MIB isn't dead. His being simply left his body and he became the black smoke, who is capable of looking like anyone so naturally he choose to look like himself most of the time when he was in human form.

noise 05-14-2010 12:46 PM

the black smoke can only take the form of dead people. if he chooses to look like Jacob's nameless brother, it's because Jacob's brother is dead.

someonecompletelyrandom 05-14-2010 03:01 PM

so he went through all the trouble of finding a "loophole" to kill Jacob, references their mother and their past, and desperately wants to leave the island because he's... not jacob's brother?

noise 05-14-2010 11:21 PM

i'm not suggesting MIB/Smokey is not Jacob's brother. only that Jacob's brother, the human being, is in fact dead, and now exists only as the smoke monster. this is new information.
