Not seen the remake, I expected it to be shit. Sylvester Stallone can't act, I'll check on RT to see what it got.

Yeah it sucks the original is excellent even though it was made 40 years ago Caine's acting is still top notch.

Some films just stand the test of time, A Clockwork Orange for example, when I watched that I felt like it was made modern day, just set in 1971.

Stalker, by Tarkovsky

stalker is a wonderful film. i hesitate to name a favorite tarkovsky but it wavers between that, andrei rublev, and nostalghia.

All Tarkovsky movies are excellent but to me there's something special about Stalker.

Have you seen any Béla Tarr? I find him to be quite similar in style, although a bit slower. If you couldn't make it out of my list, the one film by him I recommend the most is Werckmeister Harmonies [Werckmeister Harmoniák].
