I've got a feeling I don't want to start a discussion about this. Not with you guys.

2049 is able to do a lot of the same for world building/atmosphere, but it isn't a slog to sit through. Visuals/audio are absolutely top notch as well.

Wow, amazing. Different strokes I guess. For me, the first movie, unlike the second, has a warm heart aside from atmosphere and a good story and pathos (Tears in the rain monologue etc). That's what makes it a re-watchable classic, and why Villeneuve's version will never be more than a bleak and forgettable try-hard replica. The same difference in class applies to the respective film's cinematographers, Deakins is all about classic, cold and rather standard "big shots", while Cronenweth is all about warmth and texture and light play is considered as one of the most influential and original cinematographers.

But you know, to each their own...

Cassavetes, will you be my bff?

Goodfellas and Boogie Nights are my two favorite films.
