You know what was another pretty fun multiplayer one? Combat. Especially the levels with the bouncing bullets. (Looking at the picture makes me glad we had a black and white TV when I was growing up though.)

combat was another top notch competitive game but only 2 players. what really set warlords apart was the 4 player match, it's usually bundled in arcade classic titles for modern systems. the gameplay itself is a combo of breakout and pong.

How did the four-player work? Weren't there only two joystick jacks on the 2600?

maybe on the very first models but every atari i played on had 4 jacks in the back, most only had 2 joysticks, but there were definitely 4 plugs. the controls for warlords were dirt simple too. you spun the wheel around to move your shield and held the button if you wanted to catch and hold the 'fireball' before shooting it at an opponent's base.

Ah, maybe mine does have four jacks. It been a couple years since I've taken it out of the box.

I used to have one of those Atari things with the games built in that you could plug into your tv but I broke it, made me sad.

Yar's Revenge was one of the games and it was awesome.

One of my favorite Atari games is Berzerk, kinda predates Metal Gear as the first stealth based game.

Sure realistic physics and graphics are great and all, but I'll take this over next gen shooters anyday.

i remember the commercial for berzerk being WAY cooler than the game was when i finally tried it. or maybe it was the comic book ads, either way, hype >>>>> product.

as awesome as berzerk was it wasn't anything compared to robotron

shouldn't surprise anyone to learn that the main developer behind this classic went on to create Smash TV
