Here are some more stills:

The director has a very visual and poetic style. He made two films in the 70s (this one being his first) and only after 20 years he made a third one. He has a total of four films and the fifth is supposed to come out this year. Despite this, he has a legendary status and is well known. Some even call him American Tarkovsky.

This film is a kind of a road movie in the vein of Bonnie and Clyde, but only on the surface.

Badlands - Terrence Malick (awesome film)

NumberNineDream 08-02-2010 01:28 PM

^It's your turn adi.

That looks like the typical New Hollywood film, I like that decade.
I just checked out his The Tree of Life (2010) film, and it seems quite promising.

You're not playing your own game properly!

Making it a little more difficult/interesting:

NumberNineDream 08-03-2010 10:56 AM

^What's the proper way to play it ?

adidasss 08-03-2010 11:03 AM

Well the one who guesses the film right has to post the next one.

NumberNineDream 08-03-2010 11:14 AM

As the creator, I have the right to rest on the 7th day.

The comfort of strangers? (I actually don't know but that looks like Rupert Everett so I googled it...is that cheating?)

NumberNineDream 08-03-2010 01:33 PM

How can you know it's Rupert Everett from the back of his cheekbones ?
That's the the only film with Everett and Walken together. So yeah, that's the one.

adidasss 08-03-2010 01:44 PM

He has very distinctive cheekbones...;)

Incidentally, did anyone else know he was the inspiration for Dylan Dog? I remember thinking how he'd be the perfect choice to play him when discussing the film version and then I find that out...*ignorant*

Anyhow, it's not the money shot, but anyone who's seen it should recognize it:

Yeah that's the one. But how did you recognize Rupert Everett? Then you must have recognized Christopher Walken as well. Natasha Richardson and Helen Mirren are also in that film. It's an overlooked gem, made such a big impression on me when I saw it, really haunting.

And I don't think it's cheating. This thread is great for getting to know some films that we haven't seen. As long as we're not tracking down picture's url, but we're all uploading here.

NumberNineDream 08-03-2010 01:49 PM

^ True. I have to say, the only film I've seen that was put in this thread (by other than me) is maybe Bad Education -well, and some few others. Most of them, I've read about or got to know from here.

I gotta make a list of these too.

bob. 08-03-2010 02:25 PM

yeah i've been making a list....and contacted a friend who is a bit more movie inclined than i for a viewing party

as for the picture thats up....i have no idea...but it looks good

adidasss 08-03-2010 02:37 PM

Ok ok, here's the money shot:
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/stillc2.jpg

dankrsta 08-03-2010 03:58 PM

Ugh...this is so familiar. I am probably mistaking it for another film. The only film that I vaguely remember having body writing in it is The Pillow Book, but I don't think this is it. (right?)

adidasss 08-03-2010 04:01 PM

Nope.

Ok, first hint, it's a Japanese horror classic.

NumberNineDream 08-03-2010 04:02 PM

^ Lol. That's somehow obvious.

dankrsta 08-03-2010 04:11 PM

^How? It was obvious that it had Asian actors, but not that it's Japanese or horror.

bob. 08-03-2010 04:26 PM

i know for a fact i have at least seen that picture somewhere.....

dankrsta 08-03-2010 04:34 PM

Is it Kwaidan by Masaki Kobayashi?

adidasss 08-03-2010 04:35 PM

Yeah, it's the poster image on most DVDs of the film. Hint two, the man directed The human condition trilogy.

dankrsta 08-03-2010 04:39 PM

I haven't seen this film, but now I really want to.
