I'd totally go straight for Kathleen.

I'd totally go gay for Kathleen (as she was in the 80s)

How about some hint adidasss. Going by that shot I have no idea if I've seen it or not.

i really need to brush up my Russian cinema....
|
I need to brush up on all the Eastern Europe films, if not all the Eastern World ones.
|
Ok, since it's not ringing any bells, let's not kill the thread over it. It's The Return by Andrei Zvyagintsev. See it, asap...(:
Someone else post one... |
I think it's still your turn in a way. We disappointed you :p:
|
I have one, if Adidasss doesn't feel like posting.
|
Edit: Sorry jans, ok, post yours...(:
|
Ok well, in the meanwhile, one of my favorite westerns:

@ adidasss
Got a list for some Eastern European films we can get? All I know for now is Jan Svankmajer's work. |
|
@nine: Sure, in order of preference:
Vozvrashchenie (The return) - Andrei Zvyagintsev (Russia) (2003) 4 luni, 3 saptamâni si 2 zile (4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days) - Cristian Mungiu (Romania) (2007) Voskhozhdeniye (The Ascent) - Larisa Shepitko (Soviet Union) (1977) Stestí (Smells like happiness) - Bohdan Sláma (The Czech Republic) (2005) Idi i smotri (Come and see) - Elem Klimov (Soviet Union) (1985) Ivanovo detstvo (Ivan's childhood) - Andrei Tarkovsky (Soviet Union) (1962) Ostrov (The island) - Pavel Lungin (Russia) (2006) Dekalog (The Decalogue) - Krzysztof Kieslowski (Poland) (1989) (mini series) Kanal (Canal) - Andrzej Wajda (Poland) (1957) Utomlyonnye solntsem (Burnt by the sun) - Nikita Mikhalkov (Russia) (1994) Not that many actually...:\ |
@dankrsta: Last year at Marienbad? Haven't seen it but I've seen some screenshots with parks.
|
Aren't you a witty one, adidasss. Yes it's Last year at Marienbad. Great film. I've just seen it recently, but I'm planning to do it again. (Btw, tek sam skoro videla da pise da si iz Hrvatske. Pa zdravo komsija. Ti si me bese pitao odakle sam na mom zidu?)
And for the Eastern European directors and films that I've seen, I'll add: Bela Tarr (Hungary) - 'Werckmeister Harmonies' (2000) Aleksandr Sokurov (Russia) - 'Russian Ark' (2002) Nikita Mikhalkov - 'Urga' (this translation we had in Serbia) or another translation 'Close to Eden' (1991). And I second 'Burnt by the sun'. Andrzej Zulawski (Poland) - 'Trzecia czesc nocy' (1971) or trans. The Third Part of the Night And of course, Krzysztof Kieslowski and Andrei Tarkovsky are well known. But I have to see more. My friend, who is a real cinema geek, recommended me Juraj Jakubisko (Slovakia) and Walerian Borowczyk (Poland). I actually have one film by each on my hard drive, but have yet to see them. |
Thank you for the names peeps. Will check'em out as soon as I can.
