Film of the year 2010

Your favourite film of the year?

James 01-17-2011 02:13 PM

a poll perhaps?

someonecompletelyrandom 01-17-2011 02:17 PM

I voted Scott Pilgrim, maybe it wasn't better on a technical level than some of the other contenders, but I felt that for the first time (and after years of unsuccessful attempts ala Batman & Robin or Hulk) a comic book was really brought to life in film.

TockTockTock 01-17-2011 02:19 PM

I really liked The Ghost Writer. The atmosphere of the movie was just wonderful. The story itself was well-written, too. Roman Polanski is just a brilliant director.

someonecompletelyrandom 01-17-2011 02:27 PM

I don't know. That was the biggest EFFFF U!!! ending I think I've ever seen.

Violent & Funky 01-17-2011 02:29 PM

Wow, what a great year in film, and I have actually seen nearly all of these. I didn't have a clear favorite but I gave my vote to The Fighter. It was a good film on every level. Inception, Black Swan, Toy Story 3, The Social Network, Shutter Island, True Grit, 127 Hours, Kick Ass, and The Town were all great too. The year could have used comedy of the same quality as The Hangover, but I won't be too picky...

simplephysics 01-17-2011 02:52 PM

Black Swan, it hit me on a completely different level than any other movie I've seen this year.

storymilo 01-17-2011 03:25 PM

True Grit for me, closely followed by Toy Story 3. The acting was superb and I love westerns in general. Also it was a relief after A Serious Man, which I was disappointed by.

What? The Ghost Writer?

someonecompletelyrandom 01-17-2011 03:37 PM

Yeah. I mean we get all these revelations, some triumphant music plays, and

Spoiler for The Ghost Writer:
he runs out into the street and gets struck by a car.

Gee, at least it had a good payoff, Roman.

Alfred 01-17-2011 04:27 PM

Kick-Ass for sure. Scott Pilgrim vs The World and Inception trail close behind.

NSW 01-17-2011 04:38 PM

It was really hard to choose between Black Swan and Kick-Ass. Both awesome movies in their own right, but I think Kick-Ass is going to have more rewatch power for me.

Scarlett O'Hara 01-17-2011 05:29 PM

I decided to choose the Town, just because I haven't seen the Black Swan etc!

DoctorSoft 01-17-2011 05:54 PM

The Social Network closely followed by Fubar 2 and Scott Pilgrim VS. The World.

TockTockTock 01-17-2011 05:58 PM

Black Swan will probably end up winning.

Because Black Swan was the ****. For reals yo.

Guybrush 01-17-2011 06:49 PM

Guess I'll have to watch Black Swan!

Out of the ones I've seen (ten of the titles), I enjoyed Inception the most.

someonecompletelyrandom 01-18-2011 02:15 AM

Come to think of it, Skyline was the most fun I've had seeing a movie in a long time.

dankrsta 01-18-2011 02:32 AM

Oh man, I've only seen Inception and How to Train Your Dragon from this list and I really loved the latter. Have to catch up.

I usually don't care for sport films, but I sooo want to see The Fighter, just for Bale. He's sweeping the awards.

was Skyline good? it was getting crapped on so badly by reviews that I passed it up which is not like me especially when it comes to sci-fi movies.

i had to vote inception, I would've voted for Scott Pilgrim but he pissed me off at the end by getting with Ramona. I wanted him to stay with Knives.

Skyline was a total pile of donkeydung. I took looooooooong stretching and *** breaks.Nearly left halfway. Parts of it looked like a PSOne videogame, parts of it look like edited-out portions of ID4. Most of it looked like it was something great...... in the 30s perhaps?

Yeah Knives is much hotter than Ramona. That with me being Chinese as well. I was looking for Ellen on Twitter.

Howard the Duck 01-18-2011 06:44 AM

wot. no Tron : Legacy

story's crap but the visuals are a whole new dimension even if I liked the original's look better

the soundtrack (dance trax, not orchestral) ain't half bad either

Nope, I filled the poll with as much trash as I could. But I got bored, so I decided to just put in an 'other' option. I can't understand anyone choosing anything other than Inception, Black Swan, Toy Story 3 or The Social Network. (Though I haven't seen True Grit yet.) so if someone's favourite is something that isn't on the poll, I'm not interested. :p:

Inception and Black Swan are definitely the best films of the year. But I voted Black Swan.

that description of Skyline makes me want to see it even more now

someonecompletelyrandom 01-18-2011 12:33 PM

Skyline was entertaining because of how bad it was. The monsters are even after braaaaaainnnnsss... How fun is that? They shot the whole thing in the director's apartment complex and they literally never leave that location. There's this Spanish/Japanese/Italian guy who bitch slaps the whiny main character and says "vaya con dios" before blowing himself up with the monster. The black guy from Scrubs plays a badass.

This is an unintentional masterpiece.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-18-2011 12:53 PM

Inception... albeit Machete was awesome, imo.

jackhammer 01-18-2011 04:21 PM

I have only seen 3 out of the list and they come nowhere near to my choice so I voted other:

http://www.ipsofactofilms.com/images...s/valhalla.jpg

Made in 2009 but not released here until early 2010 so that counts :) most films in the list would have been in production in 2009 too.

Phenomenal film but definitely not to all tastes.

Violent & Funky 01-18-2011 04:23 PM

WTF haha...

On that logic - Black Swan, 127 Hours and True Grit are 2011 films.
I think that's cheating.
Also, which 3 have you seen from the list?

Violent & Funky 01-18-2011 04:31 PM

Also, Jackhammer, I wanna know what your favorite is from the list...

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-18-2011 04:33 PM

****... forgot about Shutter Island... oh well.

TockTockTock 01-18-2011 04:36 PM

Inception was pretty good. It was sort of a thinking movie (I guess), and it left me at the edge of my seat. Although, after I saw this I couldn't take it very seriously.

dankrsta 01-18-2011 04:43 PM

 That sums up Inception perfectly.

Haha, I saw that episode before I watched Inception, and it definitely made the film harder to take seriously. But the Woodsy Owl part is so fucked up.

How can a film that has already been released be from 2011? Pre production, production and post production is the usual evolution of a film. If a film is only released here in 2010 then surely that is the year attributed to it?

Inception was filmed in 2009 and not released until 2010. Valhalla Rising was shown once in 2009 and then released in 2010 for reviews and critic reviews so I will stick it!

Maybe some of you may watch it now ;)

Inception, Kick Ass and The Expendables are the 3 films I have seen so that helps me choosing others.

I would be a twat in choosing a film from that list not having seen the majority of them.

It was, wasn't it? Good thing Freddy Krueger saved the day.

storymilo 01-18-2011 05:09 PM

Yeah Freddy's a good guy. A real family man.

Antonio 01-18-2011 06:39 PM

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The MUTHAF**KIN WORLD!!!

nah it isn't even in the "it's so bad it's good category"

it's just bad

I only liked the people flying up to the saucers and the last 10 minutes which was badass
