i've been doing a mixture of on demand, recording and downloading this year.....i just got Sharkpocalypse and will watch it later tonight :)....might even try the drinking game with it :)

wait a lot of people believed the one about Megaladon?!?

if a 98 foot shark with several rows of 18 inch teeth was somehow released on the current eco system of the ocean....i think everything would die :)

on but off subject....there is a book called "Meg" by author Steve Alten....it was his first book and is a very entertain romp about what could happen should a Megaladon get released in the current ocean.....if you got a day or two and just want some absolutely entertaining reading i highly suggest it

i feel like the first time i really watched it was in 97 or 98.....i'm also thinking that back in the 80s it was probably one or two shows a day.....and now it's 100%

so with sharks on the brain

which is your favorite shark and why?
have you ever encountered one?

(thinking the kids in Australia might have a story or two and maybe any surfers in the LA area.....Fred?)

personally my favorite shark is the Mako...../it is simply amazing....like i said it has problem solving intelligence, has been clocked at 46 mph (but they think is can swim as fast as 68) often jumps over 9 feet in the air and has been known to jump onto boats and bite people fishing it

it's big but not in comparison to its much larger brothers.....average around 10 feet and its very aggressive....and again fucking fast

^just imagine this coming at you at 40 mph

it is a deep sea fish and it's colors represent the deep ocean....a dark shimmering blue on top and fatal white on bottom

it's tail is more like a tuna than a shark....which makes it swim at the speeds it can reach

and again when it is not successful it will try something different till it gets the results it wants....amazing

unfortunately it is also one of the most prized sharks for human consumption and is a favorite for deep sea fisherman

Bart: My favourite shark is the tiger shark. What about you Milhouse?
Milhouse: The nurse shark... I mean... (cue getting beaten up by Jimbo et al)

I have encountered a Great White before at the beach (but I was on a boat), but it's not uncommon here. You just have to be smart and not swim or surf at dawn or dusk. Most people who have been attacked by sharks have been swimming or surfing at dawn or dusk, I encourage all of my surfer friends to NOT do those pre or post work surfs or you're pretty much asking for it!

Also, it's sad because films like Jaws have depicted Great Whites as ferocious man-eaters, but in reality humans are not their ideal prey. Often when sharks attack humans it's by accident because they thought they were a seal or something, then they take a bite and think "yuck!"

i've read and heard several interviews with Peter Benchley expressing regret for the fear he caused by writing Jaws (it's still an awesome book and movie) and the damage it has done to the population of the Great White

sharks require fat and lets face it the majority of people who really use the ocean for recreation are surfers, divers and swimmers....who all tend to be lean and athletic.....not a sharks interest

how close were you to it?

Exactly!

From memory the shark was only about 5 metres or so from our boat, but we were in a large speed boat, the shark was scared and swam away pretty quickly. I took a photo at the time, I'll try to find it :)

5 meters!....to a Great White shark :)

i looked into dives down there years ago and it would cost me $10,000 with a guarantee of that :)....with a cage dive

have to admit it's all about south Africa now.....i think i would die if i saw a shark breach right in front of me
