And Post Rock is nothing new. Cluster & plenty of other German bands were doing that kind of thing 40 years ago.

It's not a case of people being haters.

You mentioned why you thought new prog was better than old prog, that's fair enough. But you've not actually mentioned any old prog at all to say why it's better, other than a quick dismissal of King Crimson compared to one band.

How much old prog have you actually heard? Can? Hawkwind? Soft Machine? Neu? Agitation Free? Cluster? Amon Düül? Art Bears? .. I could go on.

Battles & Mars Volta .. they're ok. I don't hate them or anything but listening to them and then putting on a Soft Machine album or an Art Bears album straight after and the 'progressive' label almost seems laughable.

And imagination & creativity beats out technology every single time.

First of all, I have heard of a lot of older prog, and I'm actually a big NEU! fan, with NEU! '75 being one of my top albums. I'm not a big Can fan, and I think they're slightly overrated. Maybe I haven't just gotten them yet, or something.

And also, I thought I'd say that more technology can equal more creativity, because you can sample odd noises, manipulate voices, speed music up efficiently, and make a messed up masterpiece.

I gotta agree with Dayvan on the second part of that statement. Of course, creativity is endless... I mean look at all the krautrock bands, who knows how many instruments they created to make their own unique sounds. I will say imagination & creativity is much more important than technology, that's common sense, especially in a genre like prog. But with more technology available you have more things available too take creative liberties with. Of course, some people just get overwhelmed and lazy and decide not to experiment and instead just use what's available...

That said, I don't really like any prog, except maybe bands like Kayo Dot if they fall in the genre. I consider math rock, post rock, and noise rock their own genres. Oh, and At the Drive-In crushes TMV any day :p This looks good so far though, keep it up!

Ah, yes... ATDI... I wish Cedric screamed like that in TMV's work, it would be epic.

I consider Noise Rock, Avant-Rock, Post Rock and Math Rock to be the product of prog's exploratory nature, because without that nature, those genres wouldn't have the guts to stand up and be what they are. Each mentioned genre is influenced by prog in some way, in my opinion.

Yes, Henry Cow, Can, NEU!, Early Kraftwerk, Harmonia, Faust, King Crimson...

the list goes on. I've always preferred the newer stuff.
